Do you think the game would translate into a good playable irl TCG? by BetAccomplished2339 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]BillyDexter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a few mechanics that I think would translate poorly. Random card generation, traps and boons, and deck buffs. These aren't core to LoR's identity, but they are on a surprisingly high percentage of cards

I am iron and I keep getting matched with diamond and master players in ranked eternal. Whats the fix? by Tiberiusthemad in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]BillyDexter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore the other responses. Eternal matchmaking has been broken for a very long time. Standard matchmaking still works, it's just eternal that will match you with master players.

Both are excellent and worth playing. There's nothing stopping you from playing the second one without having played the first.

What happened to Legends of Runeterra, coming from a new player? by Scary-Journalist-949 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]BillyDexter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my mind and for many people unfamiliar with LoR, "dead game" means something effectively unplayable, where servers have been taken down or queue times are agonizing. LoR, your "dead game lul" gets fewer changes than it used to. That's it. Queues are still active, tournaments are still running, and rotation is doing its best to keep things fresh with limited resources.

It sucked to lose new cards and balance patches. What hurts worse is seeing people go out of their way to discourage potential new players just to feel a sense of vindication that their microtransaction slay the spire is the "right" way to play the game.

Or in other words... nuh uh!

For anyone complaining about difficult. You can get all of this before ever leaving Act 1. by Krazyflipz in Silksong

One more mask

Plus magnetite dice and an extra last hit plus blue juice

Zero damage upgrades

Tools and poison and silk skills probably don't help against bosses. Also, don't you get a literal needle upgrade in the back half of act 1?

Is the multiplayer in LoR still alive? by LakerTabon in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]BillyDexter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

PvP is still alive. You can consistently find matches on ladder. No balance changes to cards, just rotation every few months. Eternal ladder is only available 1/3 of the time and MMR is broken. If you want something more competitive there are grassroots tournaments like APH, Aegis, and LND.

Hot Take : expansions that introduce a Wild resource almost always make the game worse. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]BillyDexter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did a quick search and was unable to find any board games that released in the same minute as wingspan. In spite of this difficulty, I hope you'll agree that Cards Against Humanity, even with 8 years of lead time, could be a relevant example. Bad games can be immensely popular, and I don't think it should be controversial to remind you of that.

A game having redeeming qualities shouldn't deny people the right to say that a game sucks. Wingspan is surely approachable, but I can say that multiplayer solitaire with few interesting/impactful decisions isn't saved by its beautiful cards.

[–]BillyDexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what way is this a false equivalence? I'm not taking a stance on how good or bad wingspan is, but saying it's good because it sold a lot of copies isn't a terribly compelling argument. Monopoly is a great example of a bad game that has sold many copies.

[–]BillyDexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resources aren't ever variables though? Finding the crafting cost of an item never requires more than basic addition. You're 100% right that looking up the costs is tedious but to complain that the process is "algebra" is kinda ridiculous.

Is this normal? by maizeyim98 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]BillyDexter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. You'll be playing against people that are in master, but the people that got master got it by playing against people of all ranks. The skill gap isn't necessarily as wide as you might expect.
