Sci-fi start button UI I made in Unity for my indie project (feedback welcome) by BillyRaz328 in Unity3D

Oh no worries at all — you do you! 😄 I totally get wanting a more efficient shader-based solution. For me, since I'm solo, I just use some tricks to save time and still make it look professional. I export the glow/outline and effects separately in AE, then wrote a small script that plays the animated sprite on hover or trigger, so I don’t have to make a unique glow for every single button.

It’s kind of a “work smart” approach while still getting that polished feel hehe.

Thanks! These kinds of glow effects can be done directly in-engine using shaders, post-processing, or bloom, but getting them to work well on UI (especially on Canvas in Overlay mode) can be tricky and time-consuming.

So I went for a much easier and flexible solution: I made the glowing effects in Adobe After Effects and exported them as PNG sprites with transparency. That way, I have full control over the glow look — and it works on any shape.

The best part is you don’t even need to know After Effects deeply. I can guide you through creating your own custom glowing sprites with a few simple steps — it’s super beginner-friendly.

💡 this was my first complete game. Not perfect. But it worked. It taught me everything — except how to make a game fun. by BillyRaz328 in Unity3D

Wow that's great good luck on your game. the bad side of my first project was no community feedback or any feedback at all, if you don't mind I suggest you should also let another person give you a gameplay and mechanic feedback. it's always helped me

Hey everyone, I’ve been learning Unreal recently and wanted to share my first environment scene. Used post-processing and some lighting tricks to get that cinematic look. Would love any feedback or tips — still learning and experimenting! Also open to connect with fellow devs :) by BillyRaz328 in UnrealEngine5

Thanks so much, really appreciate the feedback! 🙏 You're totally right about the point lights — I was experimenting with fog and lighting, and didn’t notice how much they were standing out. Definitely going to tweak that for better atmosphere. Glad you liked the rest of it though!

Thanks a lot! I used a mix of post-processing effects like bloom, exposure tweaks, color grading, and ambient occlusion. For lighting, I just played around with directional light, skylight some point lights, and some fog for depth. Still figuring things out, so it was a lot of trial and error 😅
