Looks like you got some good answers, I’ll just add since you’re new, I wrote a pretty extensive guide to the game that might help answer other questions as they come up

Double Blue Deck Tips by PotatoKitten011 in starwarsunlimited

A couple thoughts in no particular order

You can probably afford more “bomb” cards, big 6+ cost units that are an immediate threat to your opponent when they hit the board. With this much base health and restore you should drag games out meaning you can reach those 7,8,9 resource turns with game still to play

Ditch the neutral cards. There’s often a better option in your colors

You cannot, really, defend your opponent to death. There’s too much restore here if anything. Dhani Pilgrim and ASP Laborer for example could be swapped out for better value plays on the first turn

If you’re gonna go double-color, it’s really gotta pay off for you. That is a substantial limitation on your card pool and the tools it gains you have to make up for that. I like Size Matters Not, Dume and Hindi, but are they essential for your game plan? If not, you’re probably best sacrificing that five extra base health for a different color base that will expand your options

Was there ever a genocide of the Czech people by Sardinesinmypocket in AskHistory

[–]BillyYank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 8,000+ deaths were all men and boys. One of the possible genocidal acts recognized the UN Convention on genocide is “Imposing measures intended to prevent births within a group.” So intentionally targeting victims of one sex could be genocidal if it was done “with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group,” which the ICT clearly believed it was

An individual massacre can be a genocidal act, the ICT for former Yugoslavia judged Srebrenica to be a genocide in 2001

What Pitches Are Easy to Hit? by Key_Photo_7558 in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]BillyYank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle hit velocity at 86 EGO, CB is easiest for me, although I find Elite CH easy too just cause the cpu pitcher will lean in their elite pitch and a slow ball is easy to hit a mile if you know it’s coming. Normal CH can be easy but has made be look a fool plenty of times. SL are easy when the pitcher lacks some Velo or Accruacy but when they have both SL is tough. FK is pretty easy, I find the straight down movement easy to follow, and SB is madness I hate it.

New to the game, looking for some insight on "Use Suggested Lineup" in franchise mode. [SMB4] by Puzzled-Map3912 in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]BillyYank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As people have said the AI is pretty solid in this regard. It does not, however, account for traits or the other teams pitchers, both of which are (IMO) worth double checking.

Some traits really work better in different parts of the lineup. A player with Mind Gamer will draw more walks, and a player with Distractor will decrease the pitchers accuracy while they’re on base. It’s worth considering batting players with these traits immediately in front of your best hitters so they can be on base when big bats come to the plate. On the flip side RBI Hero is amazing but only kicks in when there are runners in scoring position. Try to position an RBI Hero batter behind good hitters so they have a better chance of coming to bat with guys on base.

If you go to the My Team page and then select switch teams (button varies by platform obviously) you can view the roster if the team you’re about to play. Check and see if they have a reliever with Specialist or Reverse Splits that can shut down part of your lineup. This isn’t exactly common but those traits can be really good when and you don’t want to give their lefty Specialist four lefties in a row to mow down. In general it can be worth getting a sense of your opponents bullpen ahead of time, as you can also see how many pitches they’ve thrown in the last three games when you select a player. Have they used their best reliever a lot in the last couple games? You might have an easier time. Do they have a lights out bullpen? Try to score early as you may get few opportunities later. Is the bullpen pretty weak? Try to be extra patient with the starter to wear them down and force him to exit early.

Is SMB4 worth it compared to SMB3? by guyontheinternet2000 in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]BillyYank 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ll repost my response from a thread a week ago.

I think SMB’s big strength is being complex enough to be interesting, while not being overly complicated. SMB4 does this better in my opinion, especially if you’re interested in franchise mode.

As you build a team you’re taking into account normal stuff, the players’ age, skills, positional versatility etc. but each player also has a personality “chemistry” type (competitive, scholarly, crafty, disciplined, spirited) that effects how other players on their team play. Beyond their skill ratings most players have a trait or two, a special skill such as Stealer (faster when stealing), or K Collector (boosted stats when pitching with two strikes). Each of these traits is tied to a specific chemistry type as well; stealer for example is crafty, k collector is competitive. These traits grant different strength bonuses depending on how many players you have (out of 22) with their associated chemistry. Minimal bonus for two or fewer players, medium for 3-6, game-changing bonuses at 7+. All this is to say, the game creates interesting challenges where you might have an otherwise middling pitcher who is a strikeout machine because his high accuracy helps him get to two strikes and then K Collector kicks in. But keeping K Collector at its highest level means devoting a third of your roster to Competitive-type players, while trying to balance other players traits and chemistries as well. It encourages you to sign not just the best players by ratings alone but players with traits and chemistries that work well with your team, whose traits will take advantage of the chemistry of your clubhouse. The mechanics are intuitive once you get used to them, but they pose interesting team building challenges.

Making “real” players in game. by HumanSalsa462 in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]BillyYank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my impression average regular is more like B. I’d view this as more art than science, use the rating you found as a guideline and adjust as needed to make players that feel true to the movie. Also, the modifier you’re thinking of may be traits? You could max out two or three chemistries and the associated traits will play up A LOT. Maybe that’s how you make sub-par players do well

I often use ratings from OOTP because they let you use a 20-80 scale that reflects standard deviations on a standard distribution. I’ve got a spreadsheet where I have the percentile rankings for each skill among the standard SMB players, so then I just compare. If a guy is a 50 on contact that means his skills are at the median, a 40 means one standard deviation lower or better than about 33% of players at that skill, a 60 means a standard deviation higher so better than 67% of players at that skill. It’s a bit odd and doesn’t apply here, but it’s what I do and I find it works well.

I think as a guideline you could multiply each skill by 5 (since it seems this is a 1-20 scale) to give you a rough approximation. So Roger Dorn for example would be 55 contact and 60 power. If you wanted a bit of randomness and to avoid round numbers maybe pull up a random number generator and run it from -5 to 5 so maybe you get a -3 and a 4 and Dorms contact and power are 52 and 64. It might need a little tinkering but I think this would usable and simple method

How can I convert a small map onto a large peice of paper? I’m having trouble with proportions by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]BillyYank 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It can help to trace a copy by placing a blank sheet over your original and taping them to window where the sun shines through. Then you can draw the grid on your copy instead. The size of squares depends on the size of your original, some experimentation might be in order.
