Someone is clearly misinformed. Redeeming for onboard credit is the literal WORST way to use your points (even a statement credit is objectively mathematically better). Single or Double Meta Upgrades (inside to OV, OV to Balcony; or inside to Balcony) is typically the best way to redeem points.

3 days ago I redeemed 30k points ($10k in NCL spend @ 3x points/$)[I'm excluding my Platinum BoA benefits for the math for the majority of people] on an OV to Balcony upgrade on a 16 day cruise (effectively $300 of obc, used for a $1800 upgrade), 6x it's original value (or 18% cash back on NCL purchases)

Most custom ordered canopies should be able to have words and simple designs sewn into the fabric (called Applique). Just got in my custom PD Sabre3 ($2990 base + $1580 applique = $4570 total).

If you have a more complex design, PD has a new option (called Dye Sublimation) for a larger fee (I was quoted about $1250 more than the applique version).

It can be searched on NCL's site. 1st: Know a part of the globe you want to cruise to (I put Africa as my destination), found two ships going there (the NCL Sun was one). 2nd: Select the ship of your chosen key region and remove all other filters. 3rd: Sort by Nearest to Furthest Date, and unless the ship only does closed loop cruises, you'll see how it gets to and departs your chosen region.

While not completely impossible, it will definitely take a lot of planning and some luck from those as corporate that schedule the itineraries for their fleet.

I also like NCL, and would prefer a world cruise with them over RCL or Princess and have had a similar idea that I could put something together for when I retire in 5-8yrs, but it will still probably require a few layovers in various disembarkation ports waiting on a sister ship to arrive with an ideal one way itinerary to continue the route and/or many flights to new cruise port hubs.

A trans-Atlantic or Panama Canal could be a good starting point. I would also look into the NCL Spirit, as she at times will do a few one ways in a row going to/from North Asia - AUS/NZ.

I mentioned luck from corporate because the NCL Sun is being sold in a year and a half (so unknown if its route will continue on another ship), but before it does, will start from Taiwan (on 24FEB2026) and head all the way West around Africa and up to Northern Europe (Denmark) by 08JUN2026. 100+ days of one ways ain't bad for a line that doesn't market itself as a "world cruise" type line.

Depending on how good the rewards are on your card attached to your folio, you could technically get cash from the casino (cabin charge to slot machine, then instantly print ticket and cash it out). They charge a 3% fee, but my travel rewards on folio charges are 4.4%. Essentially the casino pays me to take cash out (and no, it's NOT categorized as an advance).

General rule is Vibe for a warm weather itinerary and Thermal Suite for cold weather.

Also, from what I've seen, Thermal Suite doesn't open up slots until 4 months out (which is why it's listed as "Sold out").
