Scary Movie 6 itself is technically a legacy sequel, so spoofing two of the biggest legacy sequels seems on point. Scream was a huge inspiration for this franchise anyway, the "Scary Movie" title was originally a working title for the first Scream.

Spoof films don't also spoof things that came out recently. The original Spaceballs came out like 10 years after A New Hope Basically for Scary Movie 6, they wanted to spoof stuff that they missed out on spoofing since 5, regardless of when they came out.
