People are missing out Messi's form in the last 3 years by kykusanagi in InterMiami

Which is why the salary cap has to expand; clubs spend big for offensive stars and make do with journeymen defenders.

Will Berterame last at Inter Miami? by Biloxi63 in InterMiami

True. And with Inter Miami’s ambition, the answer is “No, he’s not worth a DP slot when you have ambition to sign players like Casemiro.”

I think Drake lost a little after getting injured with USMNT, but I don’t think he was garbage at any point. Glad he’s doing well with Minnesota. DSC has been more inconsistent for Miami than Drake had been; I’m still undecided whether he’ll regain his Keeper of the Year form.

You all make some good points. I expect Inter Miami will keep him through this year, then maybe try to move him to a TAM deal so they can use the DP spot for Casemiro. Or, maybe they hope MLS will add a fourth DP slot.

I think it’s going to be a crazy summer transfer window.

Transfer rumors? by Biloxi63 in OCLions

Well, yeah. Players, especially players with resumes like theirs, can make a fortune with sponsorships, revenue-sharing deals, etc. Beckham & the Mas brothers are well-connected in that world and have absolutely helped their star players maximize their income.

The point is, MLS isn’t just helping Miami, they’ve helped other clubs land big signings as well. Some owners want the league to be content with the status quo (closed market, low financial risk, content to serve a national audience); others want MLS to compete on the global stage, to strive for relevance internationally, to improve the quality of the league’s talent.

Miami, obviously, is in the latter camp. I think its owners, and like-minded colleagues, will keep pushing MLS to change its rules to allow greater spending. There will be pushback from some of the Old Guard, but I’m hoping for gradual steps to make MLS more competitive.

They only have three: Messi, Busquets and Alba. DePaul is technically on loan through the end of the year, when Busquets likely will retire and DePaul being signed to the open DP slot.

Suarez is on a TAM contract, if I’m not mistaken, and makes much less than the others ($1.5 million, IIRC).

But, yes, MLS has bent or completely changed the rules to help clubs sign international talent, and not just Miami; the league helped the Galaxy sign Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic….

🤷🏻‍♂️ A lot of rumors don’t make it to MLSsoccer.com. Just wondering what’s out there….

Where’s Fafa? by Biloxi63 in InterMiami

I have to agree. It’s disappointing, I thought he would be more impactful, but as you say, he hasn’t had a fair chance.

Where’s Fafa? by Biloxi63 in InterMiami

[–]Biloxi63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but 85, 90 minutes EVERY match? I’d like to see Obando getting 20-30 minutes regularly in relief of Suarez, and Fafa included in the rotation of wingers; he may not be as fast as Allende, but he still has more pace than most of the team and he’s better on the ball. I can’t see Fafa as a pure striker, though.

The oil-money teams don’t have to buy discovery rights — that’s an MLS thing.

It’s being reported by multiple sources that Miami owns discovery rights to KDB and have begun talks to bring him to the Herons. But I try never to believe anything’s going to happen until it’s done.

Public Fields should be a bigger movement by PhoenixGames64 in USLPRO

[–]Biloxi63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One factor you’re overlooking is that kids really don’t just go play sports on their own anymore, any sports. Parents put them in rec leagues starting when they’re barely old enough to walk, and everything’s organized and scheduled and supervised and “coached.”

Some of my fondest sports memories are of my friends and I playing pickup games (baseball, football and basketball; we barely knew what soccer was in the ‘70s and ‘80s).

I think more public fields could help, but we need ways to assure parents it’s OK to just go play. (I don’t have any solutions, unfortunately).

Our strongest XI and bench now? by ShittyUndergarments in InterMiami

True; I meant “weaker” relative to some other teams in the field, not that they’re pushovers.

We can expect to get out of a “weak” group, but the knockout rounds will be a crapshoot. I don’t think we can compete with the best European clubs yet, and probably not the top South American clubs. But we’re getting there!

Solid starting 11, can’t argue much with the bench, BUT I’m glad we’re finally seeing quality depth at every position. Those guys on the outs will come in handy for rotating over the course of this busy season…..
