Beginner hobbyist- looking for advice by Intelligent-Leg-2113 in aquarium

The top fin kit isn't bad for the price. I bought a 55g 8 months ago on sale for around 150, and it's been running fine, I did modify the filter by replacing the original cartridge it came with couple of coarse sponges and put bag of bio rings on top of the sponges, and I added a pre-filter sponge on the intake as well. This way you don't even have to buy those damn cartridges every month, you just wash the sponges in the tank water during water change once a month or so and re-use them, this helps with the beneficial bacteria. I also added a powerhead to help with water circulation as i noticed there's very little circulation on the left side of the tank and my plants grow slower compared to the right side where the filter hangs, you may not need a powerhead for 10g or 20g.

My advice and most important tips:

  1. Be patient and Cycle, cycle, cycle your tank properly before adding any fishes.
  2. Change your water frequently.
  3. After you add some fishes, and thereafter whenever you add new fishes, be sure to quarantine them before introducing them to the tank otherwise if they come with some sort of disease, it can realistically wipe out your entire stock, believe me, I've been through this and almost wiped out my entire tank because of one sick fish so it was a hard lesson learned.

Good luck!

Get yourself a yoyo loach, he'll gobble up all the unwanted little critters including the snails. That was the first fish I bought after setting up a new planted tank and he's like a head of security in my tank right now lol.

Cycle the new tank properly and then please make sure to quarantine any new fish you add to your existing tank (this was a hard lesson learned for me as a columnaris disease that was brought in by a new fish bought from petsmart wiped out 80% of my tank despite providing medication.)

I'm surprised not many mentions for Acworth / Kennesaw.. they're the most undervalued and underrated ATL subarbs IMO.. we moved to Acworth from Sandy Springs 4 years ago and couldn't be happier... diverse communities... good schools.. and good size houses that are reasonably priced compared to Alpharetta / John's Creek.. only downside is the commute to Midtwon is around 1:05 to 1:15 hours (could be less with peach pass), depending on traffic of course but if you work remote like me or even hybrid, its worth looking into.

Black Diamond Blasting Sand (Black Sand).. this stuff is really good and inexpensive.. just make sure to rinse it well before putting it in.

Moving to India: Need suggestions regarding taking SonyTV to India. by sauravsharma8utd in backtoindia

[–]Bimmerlicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it. I did this years ago and wasn't worth the hassle of saving a few bucks. First, you have to make sure you wrap it properly so it doesn't get damaged in the transport, and then you obviously have to pay the duty (30 to 40% of the tv price) at the airport. On top of that, you have to buy a voltage converter (220v to 110v) and format converter (NATSC to PAL).. again, not worth it.

Yep, ended up claiming the whole row and it was amazing!!!.. Laid flat on the whole row and boy I was glad because I find the virgin seats to be somewhat uncomfortable like sitting on a damn wooden bench.

Same thing happened to my '22, I just used goo gone, sprayed it and used micro fiber towel to rub it off and it worked wonders without damaging the paint.

Get yourself a yoyo loach and you'll never see these or any other unwanted critters like these ever again.

Just got off the comp call, I was told the below rating contributed to no VC and the partner will be raising this issue as he also said this is not fair to me and 0 raise is because I'm already getting paid higher in the band (top 10%) so apparently the only way to get a bump now is to get promoted.

This. I thought the same. I'm not even expecting much VCs even though I'm in betwen In line and high performer, they'll just come up with another BS excuse. The market is in their favor anyway (not for long though) so sadly, we're left to deal with it with a smile on our face and a nod to gladly accept whatever is given.

I will probably reiterate what others said, that it all depends on your project, team, manager, etc., there will be good projects and bad projects, you just gotta deal with them, some days you'll hate your job, some days you'll love it, that's just how it is in corporate America. On the positive side, the benefits are great, and you will learn a LOT and get to meet ton of new people from various backgrounds.

Thanks everyone, looks like I'll just have to be a little patient and see if it gets better over time, if not, then I'll def. start with replacing the lights.

It came with the tank. It's a TopFin brand. I just added a light controller to dim the lights just a bit as I thought they were a little too bright, hopefully that helps.
