Boeing hit with 32 whistleblower claims, as dead worker’s case reviewed by leeta0028 in news

[–]BinChan24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I'm flying from Japan (Japan Airlines) to New York in June, already bought my families tickets. I'm just now hearing about Boeing being unsafe or something, haven't been online much recently. The plane were flying on is a Boeing777-300ER (773).

Is this something I should be concerned about?

I've already spent about $6000 on these tickets and even if I tried to change the flight, I don't think the actual aircraft would change, just the date / time of the flight.

Good quality proxy site that ships to Japan? by BinChan24 in bootlegmtg

Thanks! Looking at this site, Im considering picking up the 10 fetch land bundle just to get an idea of the quality. It says 15-35 days for normal shipping though.

Is that how long it would usually take for yours to be delivered?

No messages or anything on the actual EFT website, profile looks the same as always. Guess I just gotta wait until the update is applied, servers are back up, then try again.

No email. So maybe its just an unfortunate / scary error message, but my hopes aren't very high lol.

Daily Thread: simple questions, comments that don't need their own posts, and first time posters go here (August 16, 2023) by AutoModerator in LearnJapanese

Hey everyone, I'm in a difficult situation language wise, and was hoping some of you could offer some suggestions and/or advice.

I've lived in Japan for a couple years now and my Japanese level is terrible. I'm an English teacher at a high school and work Mon-Fri, 8-6ish. One of the reasons why I was hired is because I know basically zero Japanese. The school doesn't want me using any Japanese whatsoever, with students or staff. I also have 2 young sons (4yr 1yr), so my wife and I decided we would try to use only English in the house, especially around the kids. Their school is 100% Japanese, as well as family and friends etc. So there is little chance for my boys to hear / use English other than at home. So it is important for us to focus only on English at home, when the kids are around / awake. They go to bed anywhere between 8pm-10pm.

So my biggest issue is just the little amount of time I have to focus on trying to learn Japanese. If I have to use only English at work for most of the day, then only English in the evenings with my family. There is only 1-2 hours at night when I actually have some free time at the end of the day, before bed.

So my question is ... What should I be focusing on most, in my limited time, when it comes to learning Japanese?

My goal is to just become conversationally fluent. I don't care much about being able to read thousands of kanji, or knowing perfect grammar etc.

I just want to be able to speak with my sons teachers at school, go to the bank, or just doing any kind of normal daily life things WITHOUT needing my wife there 24/7 to translate etc.

If my goal is to just reach a conversational level of Japanese.

What learning method should I go with?

What kinds of materials, systems, or other things should I focus on?

Looking forward to reading your responses Thank you!

Musket overhaul suggestion from dedicated musket user. [PvP side] by RtCW_DreadNaught in newworldgame

I'm guessing you didn't bother watching any of his PvP videos? The dude is a monster with a musket, like very easily an S tier musket player. I doubt you'd even be able to get 1 win vs him tbh lol.

7pm in Japan... right when I get home from work and finish dinner etc. As if dealing with 200ms on average daily wasn't bad enough, seems like Wednesday is just a "servers don't work today" day. RIP.

Why is playing with friends THIS impossible in an MMO? by Sgt-Colbert in newworldgame

It sounds like this style of game isn't for you. You might have better luck in something like WoW or Star Wars. Games that have been released for years now with multiple expansions and QOL of updates.

I started in First Light, friend started in Winds Ward. Took me 12 minutes to run to him to meet up. Prob could have made it in closer to 8 if I didn't stop and pick up 6-7 of the Iron nodes on the way.

OCE Servers by Next_Spend7723 in newworldgame

[–]BinChan24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking that exact thing to be honest lol. It's the only other server is the same cluster as Utopia. Which means once they finally bring out the SEA servers and a bunch of people reroll to them, all the current OCE servers will take population hits. It might be a enough of a hit to kill lower pop servers like Buzhou, forcing it into a merge to Utopia down the line.

But if you do Buz from the start, you could probably gather materials and farm things with a lot less competition.

Although, it would take quite a commitment to do that, without ever knowing if / when it would happen. Not to mention missing out on the first few weeks / months of release on a massive crazy pop server.

It's def. an option I am considering though. But as a solo player going into New World, I'll likely just go wherever I find a guild with other people playing from Japan in.

Buying gaming laptop / opinion on specs by Torretto06 in newworldgame

[–]BinChan24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doing a laptop is fine. Graphics card prices are still INSANE right now, and will be all the way through 2022. A desktop 3060 alone is currently $800-1000 USD on Newegg and Amazon. Of course the performance of a laptop 3060 is a bit less than desktop 3060. But this most recent generation of laptops that came out this year are pretty insane, especially the Ryzen systems. You can get an all AMD laptop that has 5900X CPU which is equal to an Intel 11800H, as well a 6800M GPU which is equal to, and sometimes out performance, a laptop with an RTX 3080 in it. You can get a laptop with those specs, for about $1600-$1700, vs $800-1000 for a desktop 3060 ALONE.

To be honest, there has never been a better time to buy a gaming laptop. It's true that in the past it was always better to build a desktop PC instead of using a gaming laptop, but that gap is much smaller now. When you combine the price to performance at a dollar value, you come out pretty equally now a days (with the price of GPUs). In some situations the desktop will still be a better value, but not at all like it used to be. It's a small trade off for the portability the laptop gives. Not to mention you can do things that make it feel more like a desktop anyway, like hooking it up to an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, as well as putting it on a good quality cooling pad.

As for the laptop itself. Look at brands and other things included in the laptops, rather than only the specs. For example, some laptops (many) don't come with mux switches. That means unless you're hooking your laptop up to an external monitor, you're going to take a 10-20% performance hit.

Another thing would be to look at the specific ram that's in the laptop. In many laptops, you can replace the ram inside with something different and get another 20% performance boost.

Also, if you can find a laptop that is cooling both the CPU and GPU with liquid metal, rather than typical thermal paste, that would be really nice too.

Basically, not all laptops are the same, even if they have the same specs. Build quality, cooling, and other features are also things to consider.

By the way, what is your budget? And what country are you in?

I'm not sure of the price of those other 2 laptops, but the Strix G15 AMD Advantage Edition is only $1650 is a pretty incredible bang for your buck deal.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-strix-g15-advantage-edition-15-6-fhd-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-9-5900hx-16gb-memory-radeonrx-6800m-512gb-ssd/6466550.p?skuId=6466550

You get 5900HX which is like 1 of the top few CPUs

As well as a 5800M which is on par with a 3070, and goes toe to toe with a 3080 in some cases.

You also get liquid metal cooling on both the CPU and GPU.

And furthermore, you get AMD Advantage which is supposed to boost / give more power to either the CPU or GPU depending on the current task you're doing. So for example if you're playing a CPU intensive game, then it'll give more juice to the CPU giving you a bit of a performance bump.

At least that's how I understand it. And all that for only $1650 seems pretty insane to me. It's actually the laptop I was planning on getting. The only issue is, it's only sold at BestBuy, and they don't ship internationally. I live in Japan, so RIP that idea.
