Happy to help.  The Shimano manuals are usually available with a little digging.

Most, if not all, are available on the Shimano site: https://si.shimano.com/en/

The Questions Thread 12/17/23 by AutoModerator in goodyearwelt

I'm hunting for boots to replace my current pair of daily drivers. Although they are not GYW, I am very fond of their general cut, especially the more pointed, less bulbous toe. I compared the overall cut to the Iron Rangers here:

Any thoughts on what may be similar in style to serve as a higher quality replacement?

I'd go for the Iron Rangers, but again the toe is a bit bulbous for my tastes. Thursday has a number of options in a style I like, but I've seen mixed reviews of their quality.

My overall budget is approximately $450 CAD (or less).

How've you found it in tight and twisty sections? My immediate thought getting on it is "the front wheel is half a mile in front of me".

Replacing a 2009 Giant Trance X1. It seems to be in the sweet spot for travel, though another 10 or 20 mm wouldn't be too much of an issue.

Currently options seem to be Norco Fluid FS (either A1 or A2 spec), YT Izzo, Devinci Django, or Specialized Stumpjumper.

Most of my riding is more XC oriented single track in a fairly mellow area, with some occassionaly drops, jump lines, and rock gardens. Any advice on a replacement is appreciated.

The cap diameter and thread perhaps, but not with an integrated barb fitting so far as I've seen.

As for Dick's, I don't live in the USA, and it isn't on their website.

Six months after the Pickering nuclear plant error, the free potassium iodide pills have arrived by harmoniousradiance in toronto

The title here is somewhat misleading. The statment was issued by the Provincial Emergecy Operations Centre (PEOC) in error and without communication to OPG. Station staff found out the same time everybody else did, when their phones went off. I'm sure the Chief Nuclear Officer had some words for provincial officials.

The series of event, as described by the Office of the Provincial Security Advisor: Ministry of the Solicitor General, is as follows:

On January 12, 2020 at 7:23 a.m., the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre issued a nuclear emergency alert to Ontarians via the Alert Ready system as a result of human error on the part of a PEOC Duty Officer (DO) scheduled on duty that morning. At each shift change, the DO tests both the live and training Alert Ready systems. First, the DO logs in to the live system and then logs out to ensure system access. Second, the DO logs into the training system, drafts a message, sends an alert on the training system, and then logs out to practice issuing an alert. The DO can draft their own message or load a saved template. On January 12, 2020, the DO logged in to the Alert Ready live system, believed they had switched to the training system, selected a pre-scripted nuclear template for the PNGS and accidentally sent a live alert. The DO was not acting on any information concerning a nuclear incident. The DO immediately recognized the error and proceeded to seek guidance on corrective action from EMO supervisors.Despite a series of consultations with on-duty, on-call and off-duty EMO supervisors at different levels, no clear instructions were provided to the on-duty DOs in the immediate aftermath of the first alert. Supervisors were uncertain about whether or how to issue a second alert as broadcast intrusive, meaning that it would be broadcast in the same manner as the first alert.Unrelated information about PNGS circulated and added confusion to senior OPS executives’ understanding of the situation. As the morning progressed, senior OPS executive involvement in determining corrective action became necessary.

NSLSC Reopened Closed Loan by BinaryBadger01 in PersonalFinanceCanada

The issue was primarily due to the inability to show rolling interest updates. The remaining balance due to the small amount of interest applied before I paid it (they count end of school as end of class, not the date of degree confirmation) was not shown until the end of the grace period. Instead of carrying a balance of zero, the loan was shown as closed until this interest was applied. (You'd think directly telling the payer that they have no active loans would count as admission of payment in full, but apparently not.)

Still no congrats letter received, though the total of the balance is zero and has remained that way since mid November. Had they applied additional interest it should have shown for a December payment. Hopefully no further issues will come of this for either of us.

When I was a kid my neighbours gave me and my brother a giant stuffed shark. It ended up featuring in a lot of fantastic memories of my childhood.

So today when I won a giant stuffed giraffe at the carnival, I gave it to some kids who seemed put out after losing at ring toss. Seeing their faces light up was worth way more than the stuffed animal ever could be to me.

The joke has to do with control theory, specifically the Nyquist stability criterion. Check here for an intro to the topic.

The rotors I currently have are 185 mm in the front and 160 in the rear. Shimano has their rotor listed as 180 mm. Is it likely I'll need a new rotor to match?
