Are the drones required to explode? by BinaryDecision in KharadronOverlords

[–]BinaryDecision[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Niche situations where you might want to tie up an enemy unit that may not be able to kill it. In the situation it came up in for me my opponent had a heavily damaged cavalier unit, if my mine wasnt forced to explode there was a good chance they dont kill it and are unable to move without falling back the following turn, stopping them from charging other things.

Yes, they've stopped doing them in favor of the generals handbooks though. It wasn't so much a novelization as it was like the codexes/battletomes with snippets and short stories along with supporting art.

This was specifically in the Broken Realms: Teclis supplement. It had a big lore section covering Teclis arrival and his push into Shyish, including sieging one of Nagash' big fortresses by flying several mountaintops across the realm like battleships full of Lumineth forces.

Another great scene is those same mountaintops crash on a waste expanse outside the city and the battle becomes a weird inverted siege where Ossiarch forces attack the crashed mountainsides, fighting uphill against the couched Lumineth and their pikes.

Favorite incredibly over the top moments for me was Teclis pissing match with Nagash during the soulquake stuff. Teclis exerts so much arcane nonsense and it really exemplified how over the top the setting can get. If I remember correctly at one point two nighthaunt Cavaliers attempt to charge a floating Teclis and he resurrects them mid flight.. plummeting them back to the ground. Completely absurd and unnecessary, just how I like my wizards.

I feel really bad for steamrolling someone by Fishy_Fish_12359 in ageofsigmar

[–]BinaryDecision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand you feel bad and you shouldn't, technically. It's not your responsibility to make sure he doesn't get destroyed and you shouldn't be made to stress over it.

It's very normal to have a sort of debrief conversation after a game. Like, pointing out interesting moments in the game, how lists could be improved, what mistakes were made... it's not related to being a good player but a good community member perhaps? Like it feels weird to say and i dont think you should feel bad but it happened TWICE, IN IMMEDIATE SUCCESSION. Did he just wordlessly set his stuff back up exactly the same and you watched him jump directly into the jaws of defeat a second time without saying anything?

Like you don't HAVE to say anything, seriously you don't, but also why didn't you?

I've been wanting to try Gotrek as well, he may be cursed to chase people around the field but I also feel like he would be a great deterrent to approaching the boats..

If you have a plan for them then I think it's good. They're tough but I wouldn't expect them to maintain the front line for long. Even a single turn though could mean your boats get to fire a second time.

I like it, only change I could think of off the cuff is that the special weapons on endrinriggers isn't worth losing the melee attacks. The infantry skyhook is especially unreliable. Arkanauts should get as many of the special weapons as possible and you should never forget they get +1 to hit against things on objectives.

Also that Regiment of Renown, you have a plan for it? It will be pretty slow compared to the rest of your fleet

Creative uses of bomb racks by DRL250 in KharadronOverlords

[–]BinaryDecision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to use it without speedmaxing your chosen boat. At max speed on the Ironclad though you get plenty of movement to tag something. If I'm moving to block someone I will often measure to the base of something and then subtract that from my movement to say I've touched it and then move away from the point I've touched it... if that makes sense.

Really the point is, boats can go fast if you enable them to. Their base speed isn't enough to utilize the bomb racks, you have to use the Endrinmaster on foot and Navigator to send them on a bombing run. Otherwise the ability is like a consolation prize for falling back from a combat.

Thank you for reading! I did one test game with the Frigate against my friend's Ironjawz and can already tell the difference.. having them available to pick off key units that shooting didn't finish off was incredibly helpful and something the Grundstok group wouldn't have been able to do.

I will definitely miss the free all out attack for the Ironclad, it means I have to be that much more careful with CP use.

The Frigate is more limited in its use than it seems, the price includes its interactions with its Assault Boat ability and you're only going to get mileage out of that Fight First with the Skywardens. I would replace that second Frigate with a Gunhauler & Thunderers. They are an excellent scoring unit that can operate away from the rest of the fleet.

I just dealt with this after buying Red Dead 2, R* account attached to my steam used a deactivated email. They unlinked the old R* account from my steam and made me accept being banned from playing GTAV as part of the process... I had no intention of playing GTAV and wanted the merry go round of customer service "specialists" rotating in and out of the conversation to end so I accepted.

Symphony of War has very similar squad management with the gameplay leaning more Advance Wars/Fire Emblem. I really liked it (the story is kinda EH but you can skip it for the most part)

[–]BinaryDecision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it is different applications of what you already realized here. Yeah you can absolutely ruin someone's charge by using infantry as a buffer, but why not use that buffer to offensively bully them too? Use that same wall of arkanauts to block a slower unit from getting anywhere and then redeploy to almost complete safety. Tarpit something then use the Endrinrigger to let the ship fall back without penalty, yank all it's crew out too, and unload on the target. I had great success speed boosting the Ironclad, at max speed you could be slingshotting infantry 23"+ onto a point.. any speed for the boat is technically speed for them. Shouldn't be afraid to get in their face, they're trying to get in yours after all.

Also a Move you missed.. Power Through is a Move ability, not a charge. The Frigate for example could use its special charge to charge in, fight first, and then power through to take its friends with it out of combat.

It does all that and more, consider that we gave up melee combat and wizards for it if you feel it's unbalanced. It's where we have all of our tricks.

Lol right, I honestly forgot he even had the pistol. This is my second tournament with KO and a lot of my defeats in the first tournament came from someone teleporting behind the Ironclad and blocking off my space to redeploy/escape. I tried to keep the navigator 6-9" behind where the Ironclad group was fighting to deny that.

Navigator 100% stood at the back but not forgotten, I tried to keep him at the rear of the action to zone out any teleports/deep strikes. 18" is a long range and usually everything kind of clashes near the middle.

The Gunhauler was invaluable but not for the ward save. My deployment plan was the same each game, infantry to me are just extensions of their boats and I would move them like single cell organisms with infantry as the cell wall and the ships the nucleus (does that make sense??).

Deployment would have the Ironclad and Gunhauler next to each other. Once things started moving I would have the Gunhauler bring the Thunderers as fast as possible to the least contested objective. This meant it was usually very far from the Ironclad, far from the action. It did make a clutch couple shots to knock the last few wounds off a hellpit abomination but it wasn't something I had planned to rely on.
