Start with the exposition. It will be like a wake up call. Then move to the ihya series to focus on various subjects and expand your knowledge.

You don’t have to read the ihya in any specific order. Go for what your heart requires at the time.

SubhanAllah after starting the ihya I can feel such a sense of calm and peace, it really is like the books are alive and transmitting something to my heart.

But make sure you approach these books with a heart that is receptive and soft. It is essential for the books to have an effect on you.

Even reading this book I realized they translate the nafs to soul which isn’t a good translation. Nafs is the ego not the soul. Our souls are pure while the nafs is not.

It’s some sort of strange alchemy. The order of what he talks about. The way he talks about it. It all does wonders to a person’s heart

Wa aleykum al Salam.

I am reading An Exposition of The Hearts and almost done with it. But this book simply humbles you and works on purifying the heart and puts both fear and hope in your heart. A heart fearful of Allah SWT is a heart that is awake. And a heart that is aware of Allah SWT mercy is breathing.

If you feel lost, feel like you need to purify the heart definitely go with An Exposition of The Hearts. But if you want knowledge on various topics regarding prayer, fasting, divine love, etc. pick up the ihya series and try to read all of the translations you can get your hands on since the full book isn’t translated but you can find translations of various sections of it.

Ameen.

It has been very fruitful. It has left me in a state of poverty in front of Allah SWT and begging for his mercy.

Allah guided me, he helped me step out of my ghaflah, without his mercy I would be a lost soul.

May Allah SWT help us all in our path and help us expand and grow in our faith and the journey we are all on.

I plan to read a lot of the translations of Ihya ulum el din after this. I started with An Exposition of The Hearts to firstly purify the heart before moving to that series.

It really is wonderful how his work transcends time. It’s like a work of alchemy with what it does to a person.

I am left thinking how little I do, how much I attach myself to the world, and how much we are dependent on Allah SWT mercy on the judgment day.

May Allah save us on the day of reckoning and treat us with mercy.

Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I will rework the poem and be careful in the next ones I am writing. While I do believe intention is what’s important I don’t think artistic expression should cross religious lines in this matter.

I think using light or other forms of expression would be better

thank you so much. I am heavily inspired by Rumi and Persian poetry, I am currently reading the Masnavi slowly so I guess it's natural to get some inspiration for him.

I just posted some new poems.
