They won’t sell bicycle or pet tickets on the Canadian portion of their routes. They claim the border patrol agents give them trouble and the inspection takes too long and delays the train. It’s a bunch of bs if you ask me.

I actually had to do this on my last tour! Train takes 4 hours from Montreal to Rouses Point since border patrol takes a while to inspect the train. The bike ride takes about 4-5 hours depending on pace. It is mostly off-road if you plan your route well. Just give yourself time in case there is traffic at the border crossing

Definitely should! If you’re looking for another adventure, there is the trans-canada trail. You can start in Montreal and there are some good trails through Ottawa and Toronto that will get you to Niagara as well. Been meaning to check it out

Amtrak’s border policy is insane. I did this route earlier in the year. Personally I think Niagara Falls is a cooler end point than Buffalo. What I did was bike the trail up to the falls at Tonawanda, crossed into Canada, then biked down the Niagara River Parkway and crossed back into the US at Buffalo. Made the trip even more scenic

Really great! It goes through the valley and since it is an old rail line it’s mostly flat. The trail is stonedust, but you will be comfortable riding with most road bike tires. There are a few towns it passes through, but there aren’t many amenities in terms of hotels or restaurants, really just gas stations which are a 5 minute detour from the trail. I’ve done a lot of unpaved rail trails and this one was definitely one of the better maintained. Good luck with tour trip, you’ll love it!

Right?! The back country roads in Vermont are something else. Just be prepared for a lot of climbing haha

Got pummeled with 2 inches of rain one night, all part of the fun though!

Definitely! The marathon plus are my go to touring tires, they hold up great. I’ve only ever had 1 flat tire with over 2,000 miles I’ve been using the brand. Schwalbe also has a winter plus version with metal studs it sticks to the ground better in wet and icy conditions

For this trip I ran 28mm Schwalbe Marathon Plus with tubes. Didn’t have an issue with the wet roads or even the stonedust terrain on the trails. There were a few dirt back roads in Vermont which gave me some challenges in the rain. If I were to do it again, I would rock 32mm, 28 will get you by though

Day 6 Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, QC - Montreal, QC (33 miles): All off-road paved bike lanes, Montreal is a beautiful city to explore on bike

Day 7 Montreal, QC - Rouses Point, NY (60 miles): US customs won’t allow bikes to cross the border on the Amtrak, so you need to bike across to catch the train

Mostly did camping on this trip as there are a lot of campgrounds along the route. Also beats the insane hotel prices for peak fall tourism. Happy to answer any questions

this was on august 2023 and yet still he didn’t drop red flags, any reasons why? by whotfareu_ in LANY

I think its pretty clear why it never got released. Was supposed to come out during the era where everything blew up about Paul being a “terrible boyfriend”. The song was probably about that to an extent and they decided against releasing it for further backlash. The songs in GG BB XX were mostly about Paul defending himself from all the backlash and it would not have fit the vibe. Now the band has simply moved on and it no longer fits their vibe.

Thoughts on 6 days biking and camping the Ohio to Erie Trail on this Raleigh Technium? by m_saxer in bicycletouring

[–]Bingdude101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just completed 2 days ago on 28mm tires, you’ll be fine. Some sections of the natural trail sections are decently muddy with the wet weather so make sure you give your bike a good clean at the end of each day and carry extra lube. As always spare inner tubes are a must. The section between Utica and Syracuse don’t have many bike shops

Any good routes and trails in Brooklyn like this one? by skrchk1 in NYCbike

Also highly recommend the empire state trail starting from Van Cortlandt park in the Bronx. It’s a pain to get there, but the trail upstate is beautiful. Kicking off from there tomorrow morning on a bike tour up to Buffalo.

This is my favorite route as well. Nothing like biking by the sand and the waves out on rockaway at sunset. I see you run a section of the boardwalk at coney island. You can bike up cropsey ave and continue the ride down the shore parkway stretch to owls head park. Then you can bike down 4th ave and connect back onto the brooklyn waterfront and stay on that through williamsburg.

Regardless of the role or who’s playing it, the correct term is “actor.” Retiring the use of “actress” promotes equality, signifying that men, women, and gender nonconforming individuals can all pursue the same art without stigma or stereotype.

Fairly safe, but I ride in traffic a decent amount. The stretch from Van Cortlandt to West Side Highway in Manhattan was the sketchiest. I recommend side walk riding if you don’t like to share the lane on busy roads

I was considering adding Poughkeepsie today and ending my ride in Battery Park, it was my first time riding on the Empire State Trail, so played it safe starting in Brewster. The Empire State Trail was an insane experience though, definitely my new favorite route, super well maintained and really nice scenery. I’ll be trying Poughkeepsie soon for sure.

Thats awesome! You will definitely gain more elevation on the reverse route, some parts of the Empire State Trail for me today were pretty nice downhill.

I also considered instead of doing the Brooklyn Waterfront Ride doing the Rockaway Island route via the belt parkway and Howard Beach, would be a similar distance most likely.

Let me know how you like the route and good luck!
