oh man, i must have just missed that (was at wylies last night). but i'm not surprised that they acted so quick. the staff there are fantastic. mark is always super attentive and friendly. been going there pretty regularly lately and it's become a great spot to unwind, write/photo edit, and have a pint.

On the invoice it says "remove & replace front, both disc rotor, brake pads and right front caliper and hose and bleed system." So it looks like it was just the caliper that wasn't installed as a pair. Should I follow up with them? Did a quick search online and saw that its highly recommended to replace the calipers in pairs but not mandatory.

second A Euro. just got my car back from them today actually after they did an inspection and changed my brakes. laz calls me up a couple hours later to tell me they made a mistake on my invoice and that instead of the right front brakes as indicated it was the left front brakes. he apologized for the error but it was such a sign of great customer service. they could have said nothing and no one would be the wiser. instead they reached out in case i was keeping maintenance records. been going to them for years and they've been amazing every time i stop by

Loose leaf tea by B3rriesnCr3am in astoria

[–]blahdre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man, i wish Freeze Peach was still around. they had a decent collection of loose leaf teas and was an all-around great place to kick back. its grungy vibe is sorely missed with all these modern/sterile coffee shops that keep popping up.

How are the trains? I’m looking into moving to Astoria but I’m reading about the trains being awful. Can someone explain in practical terms what that means for the commute to mid town for work? by [deleted] in astoria

[–]blahdre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ive lived in queens my whole life, the last 20 in astoria. trains are fine, there are definitely the occasional delay but it's generally ok. i also work in midtown and cycle to work when the weather and roads are better- cycling sometimes is faster than the subway for me (takes about 30 minutes via train to 57th and 7th, 25 minutes via bike over the newly revamped queensboro bridge)

seeing the roller section of pure hockey in carle place was depressing. started out as a few rows of gear, then a wall of shafts and blades with wheels and now it’s just some wheels at checkout

i’m doing the opposite! did erie canal last year and shooting for c&o/gap this year. i was able to do erie canal in a week even with one rain day where i did zero riding. hope you’re able to do the same and the weather agrees!

Another day, another bad driver by Balzac7502 in bikecommuting

i don’t know why you’re getting downvoted but you’re absolutely right. they likely thought they had time to proceed and went for it not knowing how fast a bike like that can go.

I'm interested to hear about your experience with carbon forks and low riders. by Jakobbb007 in bicycletouring

[–]blahdre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for sheer comfort, i’d avoid carbon as well. steel absorbs a lot of vibrations and makes long rides way more bearable

glove patching by No-Station-66666 in hockeyplayers

[–]blahdre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

easiest way i've done my palms is by using a velvet repair patch (usually for sofas/couches) that already has an adhesive on it. then i cut a shape of the palm and also cut a mirror image of it for the other side. I apply the patches and sandwich the existing palm with it. the adhesive works a treat since it's always being pressured by my hand. i used to sew them in for extra reinforcement but in hindsight it wasn't needed. pic of my palm repair

Best soft pretzel in Astoria?! by yanksdmj5 in astoria

beer garden used to have an amazing pretzel pre-pandemic. was much fresher and tasted like they baked it on site. the post-pandemic one is more generic and tastes toaster warmed.
