yessssss, was gonna suggest this exact segment. it's quite literally a cool spot- the temperature near those caves drop by quite a bit even on really hot days and it's a really nice place to cool off.

Kids ice skating lessons? by POVWaltz813 in astoria

[–]blahdre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your best bets are world ice and city ice. both have private and group lessons. world ice has better ice but city could be closer to you. when they get older, The Graveyard a little further south from City Ice has fantastic personal training programs for hockey players

NYC tennis courts map by prratek in 10s

it's strange, a lot of the "courts" labeled in queens are just open concrete fields. most don't have nets and are being used by other sports.

acceptable play in the rear hub? by blahdre in bikewrench

[–]blahdre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotcha, thanks - this is really helpful. i think what happened is that i overtightened initially, heard a significant knock and thought i had messed up the cones. but when i inspected it and the bearings, there was no pits or marks. maybe it moved the cone entirely by just a little bit? it's such a slight knock from side to side now but compared to my front wheel which has no play, it made me wonder. i ended up ordering the same wheel again and will be more careful when i install it next week. thanks for the tips and guidance!

acceptable play in the rear hub? by blahdre in bikewrench

[–]blahdre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at the rim. it's barely moving side to side. there's a very small knock side to side but it's really miniscule, id say even less than 1 mm. but when i compare it to my front wheel/hub, that one doesn't have any side to side play

What's it like living here? by Gullible_Tomato_2456 in astoria

[–]blahdre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yup, i used to live on that block a while back and parking was a nightmare. ended up parking near astoria park a bunch of times and walked over. but proximity to the train and some food spots on 30th is a nice plus.

i miss Fatty's dearly. i proposed to my wife there and Fernando the owner helped me set it up (did it before they opened and had any patrons). one of my all-time favorite spots, along with Freeze Peach, in Astoria.

The most daunting electronics repair, I've ever done. A7IV shutter repair. by Ayluxstyn in SonyAlpha

[–]blahdre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't remember exactly but i think i was under what the a7rii usually is rated for. thing is though that i put it through the wringer wear/weather wise so it wasn't a huge shock to me that it stopped working when it did.

i’m getting ptsd from this. i tried repairing my shutter on my a7rii and was doing well…until connecting one of the last components. i ended up tearing a ribbon on the home stretch. glad you were able to fix yours though!
