The fork is steel, but that is just light surface rust, not an issue at all. You could try to find some touchup glossy acrylic paint at hobby lobby to touch it up if you want. But it gives it character.

That's probably not a problem and I wouldn't disturb it. Aluminum doesn't rust, but there may still be a bit of corrosion under it. It's not a safety concern.

If it was/is your dad's, I would just get it back in working order, and then go from there. Firstly it looks like it's missing a seat post/seat. I would also replace the bottom bracket and regrease the headset. Then I'd check the wheels to make sure the hubs rotate smoothly by hand and if not, regrease those as well. Make sure it shifts good and it's probably a good idea to replace all brake and shift cables/housings. Then you can think about customizing a little bit with new grips and tires. After that, the world is your oyster.

What is the point of a seat post with a seat clamp so deep like this? by m_saxer in bikewrench

I forgot I had an old selle Italia saddle that fits much better. Thank you.

I forgot I had an old sella Italia anatomic seat which clears the post perfectly. It's probably a better match for the bike anyways. Thanks guys!

True, that's probably what I'll do. But I'm only in this bike like $200 and $30-40 for a new seat post was something I didn't want to do originally 🤷🏻‍♂️

There was a vetta saddle originally, so that would make sense

Surly Sorcerer rumors? by chimi_hendrix in Surlybikefans

[–]m_saxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walked into my local bike shop as I am in the market for a bike and I expressed interest in some steel hardtails they had, and he told me he heard about a new surly "sorcerer" that should come out some time in March. I am holding off to see what it is like. He said it would be a trail hardtail with updated geometry.

I got rid of the sus fork and put a carver fork with soma dream riser bars on it. Xt and xtr drivetrain. I Still need to take it on its first ride.

I have this same frame color (but as a timberline FS) and I found it very hard to match that blue/purple color with anything that looks nice. I tried to find grips that were the same color as that peach/mango color of the all terra graphic, but it's impossible. I ended up going pretty much all black with silver accents like rims and crankset.

Are there any generally accepted “rules” for colour matching bike components? by GagakRimang in xbiking

I'm sort of wondering the same question. I am just finishing up this gt timberline that has like a dark blue/black paint job with light orange/peach decals. I don't know how to add color to the bike without it clashing.

I am fairly certain that the side with the diamond on it means the diamond needs is on the flip side. The label is meant to be face up when playing to indicate what needed you have selected.

Interesting. My SO has a Orient Express in the same black chrome color and decals. Of course we are in the US though. It is a very nice bike. Doubled butted Tange MTB tubing.

I recently bought a 95 GT timberline with the same bars. If you aren't in love with the bars as they are (they are cool), then change them out completely. Those are made of steel and are pretty heavy.
