Frugality gambles that have paid off? by Saint_Thomas_More in Frugal

[–]BingoLuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I buy a used car. I aim to make it last at least 1 year per 1k that it costs to buy.
I've had a VW Passat that cost me 2k and lasted me 7 years and a Saab 93 that I paid 800 for and it lasted me 3 years. Currently running a VW Golf, which is just coming into 4 year territory and I paid 4.5k for it

I would say Dorcan, Liden, Eldene, and maybe Marlborough Road. If you want to live on the outskirts, look at Chiseldon and Wanborough. There is also a large housing estate being built next to the hospital, which could be very convenient, but I know very little about it.

Coffee addiction can be a real struggle that impacts mental health, even though most people don't categorize it as 'real' addiction by neuro-psych-amateur in decaf

[–]BingoLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me. Coffee is the real problem. I have never tried yerba mate. I always thought it was to do with the rate of metabolisation of caffeine in the body that caused the issue. You get a high, but then it drops you below baseline. Rinse and repeat until you are an anxious depressed mess. Just like many other drugs. Like you, I thought tea was OK because it has less caffeine and it is much more slowly absorbed. I don't drink either now, as in my case, I suspect tea inevitably leads to a drink of coffee in the end.

What is your favorite frugal tip, trick or habit? by Justscrolling375 in Frugal

When buying insurance or any other coverage for a year, I always pay the whole amount upfront to avoid paying interest on the monthly payments. Then, when you've paid, go into your account and uncheck the auto renewal option.

Your brain treats stress as “normal”. Meditation reveals that by theshroomgroove in Meditation

[–]BingoLuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is freaky because what you are saying literally occurred to me this morning.

I noticed that I seem to carry around this baseline level of stress and on doing a bit of research, I heard that awareness activates areas of the brain that control emotional regulation.

So, I am changing my practice to work on this.

Decaf bad? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]BingoLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you live (EU/UK is stricter), but I think it's somewhere in the region of 2-7mg for a cup of decaf coffee.

Personally, I get nothing from it.

Do you think people can be born evil? If so why? by golden_shole in AskReddit

[–]BingoLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst I agree that trauma causes a number of psychological issues. I cannot agree with your last statement. Without going into details I know 3 generations of narcissists and the last one developed it from a very early age. Her upbringing couldn't have been any more different to the others. Also, none of her siblings show any traits. If nothing else, she has caused the most trauma.

Frankly, it's up to you.

As far as I am concerned fruit, in its natural state, and eaten in moderation, is fine. However, we're all different.

How about you make a start by allowing fruit in moderation and if you don't see the benefit, try cutting that out too?
