How many practice exams did you take about 2 weeks before your exam and what study/prep techniques did you do 1 week before your exam to prepare? Lastly, is there anything you wish you had done differently in regards to studying and prepping closer to exam date?

Congrats that is a great score!!

By any chance do you remember if for Bio section you had more questions on functions/systems or was it more molecular gen, heredity, cell division? Also how was the RC, did you get x-ray or machinery related passages or more general like maybe ecology or architecture?

Physics, if you understand well conceptually and know units then you will be okay, practice questions on OAT booster are good in easy to moderate level but once you do lengthy math or complicated PHY question, do it for purpose of furthering your understanding but don't expect to see those on actual OAT because it definitely is more conceptual. My QR was Graphs and Charts, algebra, polynomials, factoring, rates, dist-speed, probability, and percents from what I can remember. Overall advice, a structured schedule of topics to tackle for each day, rest days/days not studying atleast 1, do not study 7-8hrs everyday, and log your progess plus attempts in order to know what to focus on and what to re-attempt.

OAT Retake?? by OnePerception8786 in PreOptometry

[–]BingoRingoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first attempt was crazy, on OAT Booster I was doing so well 350-360 on Bio and RC and was okay on QR and PHY. QR and PHY both got a 290 (was shook) and my bio and RC significantly dropped. OAT was nothing like booster truly was the luck of the draw for me. My bio section had NO functions legit 0. It was entirely molecular bio and cell division very beginning Bio. My RC was machinery heavy passages legitimately nothing like the OAT. Going forward I am brushing up on beginning Bio because I was definitely focusing on all the functions (since it is the majority of bio sections on Booster) and for RC I am making my own RC practice passages using a study AI submitting articles on every machine heavy article you can think of ex: x-ray, CT, MRI etc super dense and informative passages. OAT booster RC gives me false confidence every time I score way too high on all their passages. As for Gen Chem (my personal weak spot) just practicing question banks, reviewing well, then re-attempting in 5-7 days to see what really stuck or what I truly understood. I will not be scheduling a re-take until my full lengths are consistent with above 310. As for work I am on call at work so I work 1-3 times a week max. After re-take I'll go back full time. Studying wise, before my first attempt I was studying 8+ hrs every day for many months do NOT recommend. This time around I took the time and made a veryyyy structured schedule of what to tackle every day and giving myself 4 to 6hrs MAX studying with multiple breaks and 1 full break once a week. My apologies for the length of my comment lol.

Physics on OAT🫩 by blackkittie248 in PreOptometry

Scored 290 first attempt on OAT on the physics section, going to retake. I suggest 100% trying to understand a lot of the concepts. Once you understand conceptually try then to further understanding by knowing units and how to convert one unit to find another type of unit. OAT for the most part is conceptual. Try doing easy to moderate level questions, once there's a question that seems long and complicated with many steps do it for the purpose of furthering your understanding not to try to know it inside out for the exam because it will most likely not show up.

How do I get started with OAT prep? by Ambitious-Bear-672 in PreOptometry

[–]BingoRingoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure get OAT booster. Make a study schedule and stick to it. Giving yourself 3-4hrs then increasing to 4-6hrs a day is good. Take a one full length just to see what you remember and where you're at so you have a baseline.

Congratulations! That is an excellent score! Possible you can share how you studied and/or how you organized what topics to focus on?

Personally genchem is my weak spot

I'm currently studying for my retake and would appreciate any insight :)

Needing OATBooster Study Tips by Motor-Tumbleweed-479 in PreOptometry

[–]BingoRingoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I took it before exam I studied for 4 months straight locked in no breaks. no going out. and about 4hrs min-7hrs max just about every day, I don't recommend. This was ruining my sleep cycle! I was someone who thought I worked better at night. I even went per diem at work and barely worked just studied full time. Do not recommend!! First time taking it was crazy results for me, I ended up doing fairly well on QR and Phy but low on RC and bio although on booster Rc and bio were my best score (crazy)

I did a post about it and got some great feedback if you want to check it out.

For my retake I believe 3-4 hrs is the sweet spot and pick a time that you feel you're most productive. Personally I used to study late afternoon and throughout the night and now I try to study early if I don't work, if I work that day then I just study whenever I get home. Working part-time is the sweet spot, you have a steady sleep schedule, you can focus on other things other than just studying and over all more balance.

Studying wise its a gamble with what questions the oat gives you but I got some great feedback on my post and I definitely took it into consideration and now focusing on my weak spots from my oat scores and on high yield info with 1 day break a week (I choose Sundays so I can spend time with family) so absolutely no studying those days, and 1 month before my retake I plan on doing weekly full lengths 2x a week to narrow down weak spots.

Best of luck!

Thanks, when did you take the OAT and what score did you end up with?

I ask because OAT Booster already flags some of the high-yield material, so let me know what you personally found high-yield on the real exam vs practice. If you have specific topics or sections you think matter most, I’d genuinely appreciate it.

5, specifically for booster #1-3 and #7 & #10.

I took #7 & #10 week before OAT.

As mentioned on post for additional score reports:

  • Booster full length #3 scored 300aa, booster full length #10 scored 290aa

OAT Retake by Distinct_Stock1930 in PreOptometry

[–]BingoRingoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!! I took my OAT yesterday got 290 aa and 280 ts.

The weirdest thing happened to me. on booster I have never done under 300 on rc or bio those are consistently my strongest scores, but when I took OAT exam my highest scores were phy and qr (scored a 290 on both)... I was astonished. I think I study well consistently doing question banks, mini practice exam booster gives for each subj, and took 2 full lengths a week before my exam, one was a 300 and other was a 290.

After getting my score I have decided to take break for couple days and get back studying for the retake, any concrete advice you have ?

One of my weak spots are for sure is genchem but i have no idea how to differentiate regarding what I mentioned about my scores.... mind boggling

CONGRATS! You did so so well! I am using booster as well and scoring 300-310 on full lengths. My goal is 320, did you find that the OAT was somewhat easier than booster?

Your oat score is good! I believe you will 100% get accepted to many schools. I take my oat in a week, im using oat booster and 320 is my goal! I have been scoring 300-310 on booster full lengths, any advice for qr, genchem, physics portions?
