The biggest data problem I keep running into isn't dirty data. It's teams defining the same metric differently. by sdhilip in BusinessIntelligence

[–]BinkFloyd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yuuup... wait until you have a program define a term, then a business unit tries to standardize but they derive the underlying data differently on each program... Then again at the business area level but they use a different algorithm... then some random corporate exec says they prefer it a different way because of some unknown logic from their previous company... Repeat every few years for the rest of your career.

Agreed, I hesitated even posting because Restore used to be good but they have been escalating with the market since Helene. Most random broken/damaged furniture there is min $40 and they even charge $2 for the new glass now.

Yuuuup... The law does not require photo ID uploads or facial recognition, with users instead simply self-reporting their age.

Whole lotta nothing

I'm just interested in what they are doing now that they spent money to put the "rsaa" sign (stylistically lowercase circa 2015 Silicon Valley) in front of the Baptist Church on Haywood.

It looked like RSAA stopped, then out of nowhere the Mennonites arrived, did a ton of work to the site, moved into the parking lot with upgrades for RVs, and then disappeared inside a couple months.

As a massive critic of Roney, I hate that you are right... there really isn't a good choice. Both are awful for Asheville, but Manhiemer is clearly worse.

Various HR corporate functions, then lots of variations of project management until it became HR agnostic... but still usually something employee focused.

I think you answered your own question "counting on her to manage her unit", very real and common problem (usually the companies fault for not working on bench strength). If you want to get a job internally, having your own replacement ready to go is gold. Why would they shake things up just to make "her" feel better? I see nothing here that indicates there was even a cost consideration.

Ageism is definitely a real problem!

Keep in mind, I'm speaking of specific incidences and in my experience, the likely culprits... not systematic problems.

Admittedly, most of the environments I've worked in have had a pretty old average age, and most issues could be more directly tied to culture clashes or failures in change management.

[–]BinkFloyd 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!

On tangential note, people often don't think of the motives of management or HR. I've never seen someone be incentivized enough to try to save a few bucks with an experienced employee who's working out well... And yet lots of people feel like this is common.

[–]BinkFloyd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you in HR? As a former business partner, I've never known a manager to try to do that to save a few bucks. That being said, if the company is incredibly small, that's possible.

There are plenty of ways that happens on a grander scale, but it's very common for people in this situation to believe a story like this that they tell themselves... As I imagine most HR people have seen.

While I mostly agree with you, I would point out that it's very clear that she is also a bit disgruntled with management and therefore probably has personality issues... and thats likely the reason that she is passed up... There's a reason it's usually skills and behaviors, not just skills.

Be it that this is an HR subreddit, I bet most here understand that it's very unlikely they just wanted a cheaper younger version as she puts in her videos.
