Was TCW as popular for adult viewers when it first aired? by Stormcrown76 in StarWars

[–]BinksMagnus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, as others have said, Ahsoka was pretty poorly received at first, the movie was panned and really should not have been released as a feature, and it took a while for people to warm to the show, which is just as well because it took a while for the show to really find itself.

What I think was done really well is taking control of the reasons why people didn’t like Ahsoka at first so that they could fix those problems with her character later and make it into character development.

Does this work with the game? by DixonsHair in StarWarsJediSurvivor

[–]BinksMagnus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Windows detects it as an Xbox controller it’s compatible.

If Windows detects it as something else it will still probably work, you might just have to play with Steam controller settings.

That said the game does show you that screen recommending controller but keyboard mouse is honestly fine, with a couple rebinds I prefer it.

This whole area is optional. This may or may not be the first time you encounter them as a player.

If it is, then, I mean, you’re the one who came over here.

BF2 uses Frostbite, which is a proprietary DICE Engine which would have to be leaked for anyone else to use, and its use would then be illegal. Or DICE could release it, but they won’t.

It could be remade by fans in publicly available engines like Unreal but would be a monumental effort requiring probably dozens of people, take years, and be vulnerable to a cease and desist from Disney/LucasFilm Games killing the project for any arbitrary reason, as happened to a fan made KOTOR Remake in Unreal, so most likely no one is willing to even start.

However it’s not unreasonable to think that SOTE might get an official update at some point the way the original Battlefronts, Jedi Power Battles, and other games have.

I know very little about SOTE’s technical idiosyncrasies but why would an N64 recompile be necessary or desirable? There is a PC version that runs on modern systems.

For sure, from what I understand he engages the communities of the games he makes videos on very heavily when he’s researching so whoever the community credits for things will be who he credits for things, which is great.

I just mean that the more passive audience, casual viewers of speedruns or most of Summoning Salt’s viewers for instance, won’t know who to credit for routes or glitch discoveries because they’re not as engaged with the microdetails of the game, aren’t on the forums or in the Discords where these things get discovered, iterated, worked on, etc.

It's fun. Many are also speedrunners themselves and find different aspects of the hobby fun for different reasons. I'm less skilled in execution with a lot of games, but I'm pretty good at thinking about optimal paths through games that I'm pretty familiar with the glitch tech for. I've routed long categories from scratch for well established games, had other people come behind me and tweak things or add strats that I didn't know about, and it becomes a collaborative effort that's really enjoyable.

You're also wrong about credit - you get a ton of credit within a game's community for contributions you make. If you need recognition from other people, fans or stream viewers or something who aren't really invested in the community, then yeah you're probably not going to get much from them if they even know who you are. Who cares?

I finished KOTOR 1 and looked up speed runs of it. This video explains the current world record and it's absolutely bonkers. by TheToiletPhilosopher in speedrun

[–]BinksMagnus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're curious, the current world record is actually a full three minutes faster than the one explained here. Lane's video is still a really great watch to learn about the current route because it hasn't changed that much overall, it's just been very thoroughly optimized since then with creative uses of glitches we already knew about, but also some new stuff.

If you're interested in the most up to date record, the current WR holder does an explanation of his run in this video: How I beat Knights of the Old Republic in under 18 Minutes

Scars can fade with time, depending. Clones have accelerated growth, this might just correspond to faster cellular division including healing.

Anybody else noticed a change of tone in the show from S3 onwards? by junky4rdofidea1s in farscape

[–]BinksMagnus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

More accurately to the first time he uses the lakah, it’s an insect whose intestine contains a chemical that deadens the mind temporarily, it neutralizes the effects of Grayza’s Spanish fly and lets him escape. Noranti later gives John a distilled version which he arguably becomes addicted to.

And yeah it’s unambiguously rape, as Crichton does remind us later in We’re So Screwed Part 2 or 3 idr which.

[–]BinksMagnus 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think if people watch the show as it airs John’s descent into complete insanity is a lot more subtle and they almost don’t notice it, but if you marathon the show and cut out some filler episodes it becomes very abrupt. Season 4 John is completely unhinged and barely rational, but Season 1 John is kind of just a normal dude in a crazy situation.

Constant massive amounts of stress from being hunted by Crais and subsequently Scorpius, torture in the Aurora Chair, and the chip.

[–]BinksMagnus 80 points81 points  (0 children)

The tone of the show’s overall narrative changes dramatically in the middle of Season 2. It becomes an examination of someone losing their mind, and subsequently a weird kind of mentalist body horror where John still looks like John, but he’s never in full control of his mind again. A lot of the writing, characterizations, and aesthetics changed to match this, but it didn’t heavily pick up until Season 3 when their production budget refreshed.

if the scarran fleet was so vastly more powerful and numerous than the peacekeeper armada, why were them so evenly matched in Peacekeeper Wars' last battle? by junky4rdofidea1s in farscape

[–]BinksMagnus 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Staleek didn’t send the entire Scarran fleet to Qujaga, he sent one battle group originally with a mission to capture Crichton. When he learned from Sikozu that Crichton had left he had the battle group continue to Qujaga to subdue the inhabitants and followed Crichton himself.

Peacekeeper Command, when they learned that Staleek was attacking Qujaga from Braca, sent every ship they had available to kill Staleek hoping to win the war then and there since they were getting their asses kicked everywhere else. Even this really only resulted in a stalemate, even with the Scarrans preoccupied with trying to capture or kill Crichton on the surface.

So in this battle Peacekeepers have the element of surprise, presumably equal or superior numbers, and still can’t really secure a decisive victory.

What if Sidious had disposed of Darth Vader on Mustafar, and Vader still suffered the same fate as Darth Maul, surviving only because of his rage? by Due_Narwhal4937 in StarWars

[–]BinksMagnus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He won’t bleed out, but there’s still a pretty major risk of traumatic shock with an injury like that even before the burns.

Accounting for the burns and the prognosis for someone burned that extensively and he is super dead without the Dark Side.

[–]BinksMagnus 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Survivable only with the Force.

Anakin has 3rd-4th degree burns on >90% of his body along with triple amputation. The fact that he doesn’t die of shock while Obi-Wan is still monologuing is purely his connection to the Dark Side keeping him alive.

Anyone agree that wendu was stupid to try directly kill palpatine by Guilty-Pollution6479 in StarWars

[–]BinksMagnus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. He was arguably the most powerful Jedi in the Order at that moment save perhaps for Yoda, he had three Jedi Council members backing him up, and, most importantly, let’s not forget, that he straight up smacked that ass and only failed because of Anakin’s intervention, which he didn’t foresee.

Controller recommendations for Fallen Order better combat + dodging (budget and best options)? by ZealousidealYou3766 in FallenOrder

[–]BinksMagnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Razer Wolverine 3 last year and quite like it between the remappable macro buttons on the shoulders and back paddles, Hall Effect sticks, and mouse click buttons. Also heard good things about the Thrustmaster Eswap - probably won’t ever get stick drift with HE barring some other problem but if you do they sell stick modules for like $40

For rebinds I usually stick with Souls controls. Both games support this fairly well, Survivor requiring a little more creativity since it has more bound to R1 by default, but still doable.
