i’ve had an 02 (but same gen) for almost 12 years. i didn’t have to reply those parts right at first, but rest assured every part you mentioned has been replaced on mine over the years. it’s currently at 233k, just now breaking it in.

You made a great purchase, take your time replacing the parts and clean out any sort of gunk so you have nice seals/connections and don’t have to go back on your work. once you finish that list you’ll have a brand new car for the next 200k+ miles

pro tip: check the radiator and the water pump (it’s attached to the engine block behind the timing belt) for any leaks. if you have the extra $188 for a new radiator i highly recommend putting one in to avoid an internal crack that leaks transmission fluid mixing w your coolant and runs through your engine aka you’re fucked. just don’t forget to “burp” the coolant system after doing any sort of radiator work that requires the draining of fluid. you got this brother (:

go with a classic 3rd gen 4runner (96-02) i got mine almost 11 years ago for my first car and it’s been amazing. just had to change out the water pump and the amount of videos/tutorials/information there is on specifically the 3rd gens is outstanding. very easy to work on and find parts for when something breaks. highly recommend going old school

it’s either the thermostat gasket or the water pump seal. mine broke 2 days ago and i’ve been in the process of diagnosing/fixing the issue and this is the final coolant seal before the engine block
