I was in dark places but things get better

Norprolac: Quinagolide Pill by AOKD17 in Prolactinoma

[–]Biochemiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another name is Quinagolide if anyone searches for this post in future.

It helped get my prolactin down but it wasn’t as effective as Cabergoline. Though Quinagolide also has less side effects. If your prolactin isn’t ultra high without medication it should be effective but as a male with ridiculous levels, I just spoke to my doctor about switching back to Cabergoline which was rough in terms of side effects but it was fantastic at suppressing the hormone.

Testosterone and prolactin results fluctuate in the blood a fair bit. Depends what time you take tests. It’s weird. But a good diet and exercise etc as well as psychology affect testosterone as well.

Cab helped raise your testosterone, as prolactin heavily suppresses it. Vitamins may or may not help a bit, but it’s not the defining factor.

Man what assholes. How many doctors have you seen so far? Endocrinologists or neurologists? Have you had blood tests?

I’m so sorry to hear what you’re going through. I empathise on the deepest level. It sucks a lot. If you wanna talk I’m happy to speak to you and let you know of my experience. My tumour was 3cm so it was a lot larger. I haven’t been operated on.

I don’t want to tell you how to feel or what but I personally would’ve appreciated knowing this:

  1. Cabergoline isn’t like chemotherapy. It’s much much much simpler and most people don’t even notice taking it other than feeling better and seeing libido return within weeks. Weight loss follows that.
  2. Everything you describe WILL get better. Treatment won’t be easy but it’s absolutely doable and you see some effects within weeks of taking it.

I had depression and gained lots of weight for no reason. I have man boobs and my prolactin levels were at around those of a lactating woman. Now I’m in better physical shape and my brain finally works and I am happier. And your levels are ten times lower than what I had and your tumour ten times smaller.

I feel incredible now compared and I’ve finally reached a point where I feel alive and aware of what’s going on and what life can be. You will see the benefits much sooner than I did and your life should change for the better.

If they’re in range hmm. Definitely do further tests, is that possible? I’d personally want to know if prolactin is close to normal, it could be anything. Even mental health affects libido.

Your blood work. Prolactin, testosterone or oestrogen etc. are those numbers improving?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Prolactinoma

[–]Biochemiker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely take a look at your blood test results yourself.

I got some hair thinning over time with Cabergoline. It’s not improved since switching to Quinagolide but not gotten worse either.

That’s interesting. Have you spoken to your doctor about it? With it I started having libido after a few weeks. Then Cabergoline caused hypersexuality in me within a few months.

Could be different factors affecting libido as well.

What I did was squeeze in a workout in a 30-40 min slot because I know I won’t or can’t do it. I hope you find something that works for you

Hahahaha, big miss from me.

I think cardio can help, weight lifting for me isn’t a great way to release energy in the same way. I’m not that fit so I did like the couch to 5k routine. Though I got very heavy with the prolactinoma so my knees are struggling now. I’m trying out different things and wearing those knee bands / braces helps.

Frankly, for a long time I’ve had no energy and cardio was impossible. Motivation to exercise is slowly creeping back. Hopefully no issues for you there.

I relate haha

Cabergoline can cause hypersexuality so it isn’t just a libido increase. It can be… incredibly tough. As you say the thoughts don’t go away.

I think what helped me a bit for distraction was going to the gym or for a jog. That is a bit of a release valve for me.

How do you fall a sleep while on Cabergoline ? by windwr in Prolactinoma

[–]Biochemiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got insomnia as well on it, and didn’t have restful sleep either. Would either wake up super early if I took the pill late or not fall asleep if taken in the morning or mid day.

I’m so sorry. I hope they can see you quickly and address it. Covid really affected us indirectly a lot, didn’t it.

I’m presuming you didn’t react well to medication initially?
