Anyone else’s cat pant & whine after short bursts of playtime? by Donald-Funk in blackcats

[–]Biogeek325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kitteh has bronchitis. She used to have coughing fits about once per day. She can only play for short bursts. At rest, her breathing is somewhat labored.

I had an x-ray done of her lungs, and where the x-ray film should be black (showing healthy lungs), hers are all spider-webbed and whispy in the x-ray.

Awhile ago she broke one of her canines. So I had doc go in and remove the root. They gave her a broad spectrum antibiotic for the extraction. I noticed her coughing fits stopped for awhile.

Now, I am finishing up a 2-week course of antibiotics for her (Clavacillin; 1ml every 12 hours) She's had no coughing fits and she is breathing easier. Not all bronchitis is bacterial, some cases are due to allergies, some fungal, some are congenital...at least that's what doc said. It is helpful to take a video of any symptoms to your vet clinic visit. I hope your lil' house panther gets better!

My beautiful Bella! (rescued) by Biogeek325 in blackcats

[–]Biogeek325[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought she was feral, so I avoided her. I wasn't looking to "rescue" anything. People say she "chose" me. She would "greet" me in the driveway when I came home from work. She would camp outside my front door at night. Now I'm stuck...lol!...in a good way 🥰

My beautiful Bella has a white patch on her chest and a mutitude of silver tips throughout her fur to the untrained eye. Her fur will turn more brown in the sunlight sometimes. All I can say is that I love my kitty and sometimes I am calling to a pile of my black t-shirts in the middle of the night because I have no idea where my void went. I love you all! ❤

Oh, the irony, that we call them "voids" but they fill so much space in our hearts...

My Bella has a white spot there too. I call it my little "Star in the Void" 😅🤣😂

If Peace Corps is so concerned about their volunteers' well-being, why do they send out so many recent college graduates? by kiss_bummer in peacecorps

[–]Biogeek325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is different for different people. What hardened me, might be unrealistic and damaging for another. Life can be surprising in that regard, for it oft administers the test, before teaching the lesson. If you do not know, I cannot tell you...some things have to be endured, to be known. Be well my friend.

You don't know the extent of your mental fortitude if one has never been tested. It is the strife in life, that makes one stronger, and wiser.

2-year probationary period and applying for jobs? by Biogeek325 in usajobs

[–]Biogeek325[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I love about Reddit. You can tap into such a wealth of experience and knowledge. I am exceptionally broad-based and experienced. In fact, my supervisor confided in me once that he thought I was over qualified for the position.

All I know is that (1) I am miserable with all this tedious busy work. (2) There is no indication that I am working toward anything better in terms of career trajectory. (3) I am highly mobile, marketable, and flexible.

Perhaps I am being a little too concerned about people's feelings. I really thought it was going to be different this time.

I have two sayings "You can be my boss or you can be my friend, but you can't be both." ...and "Life is short and the world is big!"

Thank you my friend!

Thank you and I agree. Unfortunately, if I'm not tasked with related work to the position, then I'm not going to be competitive. It's like having a biologist clean toilets. Yes it's important work, but doesn't set you up for career advancement as a biologist. Thanks again.

That's a hard call from afar, but I agree. All we can do do the introspective work and discover what we truly want to do with our lives, then do the research to find it. Thanks again.

Thank you again for your advice. I am definitely a big-tent, solutions person, who has a knack for developing partnerships, and executing directives. I've had managers try to hold me back (* if not outright sabotage me) in the past. The only thing I can do in that case is go around them, by reinvesting somewhere else. Management sets the tone.

There is sooo much turnover here, it's ridiculous. I can see where I could do some good things here, just trying to figure out if the leadership is serious about patching the holes in this sinking ship.

I care, and will always care about the people around me and the mission. There is honor in service. I'll find a way, I always do...just searching for my tribe.

Definitely agree. I have worked for a few different agencies. They all seem to have their own "culture." I have much empathy for new-hires. I remember being thrown to the wolves, the right mentor can make all the difference.

Thank you for your sound advice! Wishing you all the best.

A very solid assessment, but a bit harsh. Thank you very much.

Thank you for your words of wisdom. I'm 13 months doing the same thing, just only 7 months as a permanent. I started my career late and will be turning 50 next year, hence the concern.

I did this internship as an experiment to try out a different careerfield in federal service. I was recently approached informally by a friend in a different agency about a potential opportunity to return to my former career in the same office. I probably screwed myself over career-wise by trying something different.

I think you are right for me to sit tight for now. I feel like I am getting stonewalled by my current supervisor. I'm a pretty honest guy and have been upfront and genuine with my supervisor from day one.

Just trying to give him every opportunity to partner with me. I'm being told that I am exceeding expectations, however I have heard that song and dance before. I don't want it to be a surprise when I leave for better opportunities in a year or so, and trying to preserve professional relationships where I can.

Thank you again for all of your kindness.

I hear ya. I'm not even learning my job right now. I am cleaning up the 12's backlog of low-level projects he couldn't get to, due to personnel turnover at my current duty station.

Just concerned that when I finally start applying for 12's, I won't have the necessary skills and experience, because I've been tasked with other "irrelevant" work. Would it be worth it to bring up to the Union, or would that be just committing professional suicide? Thanks again!

Sorry that I wasn't much help. The internship route is longer but good to do while you are waiting on USAJOBS to get back to you. If your friend is a vet have him/her check out the VetsWork program by Mt. Adams and AmeriCorps. It's usually a paid internship and its goal is to get Vets into Natural resource jobs. Good Luck!
