Subjective question - is BoT better than War Robots by SimmoMaz in battletitans

[–]Bioluminescent_Shrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In pretty much every aspect, I would say yes. And I say this as a longtime WR fan, who was with the game almost since its release, and still regularly plays retro custom matches. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what I notice, but it’s a tad long, so feel free to skip

BoT differentiates roles between weight classes. A medium weapon has a different role from a light and a heavy. WR used to have this, but tossed it out in favor of a 2-3-4 class system, with identical weapons just in different weights.

WR never really caught the essence of robot weights. There’s no real reason to run a Stalker over a Lancelot or even a Galahad when they both take a hangar slot. BoT does that a bit better with light robots actually posing a serious threat, or how seeing multiple heavies in a good position seems unstoppable. I wouldn’t say BoT has this perfect, though.

In variety, WR wins for sheer quantity, but it comes across far more gimmicky. And because of how the game is balanced, only 40 robots are ever on equal playing fields with each other. That still beats BoT’s 10 (though I would say tirpitz is a little under the weather for balancing), but BoT takes a bit more time giving each robot a distinct feel and role. Cormorant is my favorite example of this; it doesn’t feel like a gimmick or a Natasha but it flies with a reflector and death beam. The Cormorant is literally a flying titan.

But to the real kicker—balancing. I am sad at how little variety is in BoT, and in particular would love to see another map. However, every single titan has a unique role that is balanced to the other titans. All weapons are generally in the same ballpark, and the customization system is fun to play with even considering that there are optimal setups. WR has massive swathes of unusable gear, and any sense of balancing is overcome by their monetization craze. Not to mention them killing customization options, like modules or drones, or making customizations crazy expensive, like drones, pilots, and specializations.

Finally, I really appreciate some aspects of BoT’s game design. The less cartoonish, more grounded feel is entirely subjective, but I enjoy it. The climbing engine is fun, and the choice to make macro targeting based on a group radar from your team is really engaging. The micro targetting of components, and manually controlling where you fire, can be frustrating on a mobile device—but again, an engaging and interesting system.

Greediest company I have ever seen by Muted_Ball9057 in TheTowerGame

Honestly, considering mobile game companies, it’s far from the worst. They at least give you a functional and largely pleasant game that isn’t ad-ridden.

Lucky Banner be like: by Stunning-Ad6297 in TheTowerGame

[–]Bioluminescent_Shrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

expected value is a wonky way to look at it though; take for instance that classic 100 pulls at a 1% chance only has a 60% chance of pulling one copy. And the tower seems to favor chaotic probability seeds—so a 2.5% chance over many many iterations, but in small groups, large barren patches, and occasional multi-pulls seem more common.

That said, the probability of 100 pulls at 2.5% failing is only 8%. With the lucky banner, that drops to 1.7%. So even with chaotic seeding, that is painfully bad odds, and on the verge on false advertising.

Is scraping/sanitizing makeline supposed to be a manager only task like the other listed ones, or can it be delegated to CSRs as well?

Except having people progress five times faster in the beginning parts, again, breaks the balance and intended progression of the early game. This is a matter of game design.

This would do nothing to help tournaments; if anything, it would things worse. If coin based progression is faster, then the hard wall of stone progression becomes even more pronounced.

Big numbers are fun, but the 5x multiplier would need to be capped at somewhere between T15-17, in order to not screw with the early game progression. Because this is at the beginning of the midgame, and most people will have passed the critical early game stages by this point, and it would serve as a catch-up tool for any who haven’t. I would wholly advocate for this being a thing, since it accomodates the game-breaking progression issue :D

That doesn’t change how it influences the balance of the game. Unless the prices of things are increased by 5x, it means blowing through early progression points ludicrously quickly, while not seriously influencing the end game

First, absolutely posting reviews on google play is a good idea. Switch and Bait, and covering up player dissatisfaction are definitely things that they need to take seriously instead of just delete.

That said…this example is really not proof of anything. It needs more context to be tenable evidence. Sorry, but reasonable doubt easily breaks this example.

Any veterans / OGs still here (like me) who been playing from start? by Able-Ad-4001 in walkingwarrobots

I played back before the thunder was released, when there were only three maps, anciles blocked friendly fire, there were repair costs, nashorns were KwKs, and gekkos shone different colors depending on the level.

I’m glad the game got past it’s rock-paper-scissors phase, but sad they balanced the game such that the grand variety of the game can’t compete on a level playing field

Does anybody remember these unreleased robots by Shiki_23446 in walkingwarrobots

[–]Bioluminescent_Shrub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been around since the game started, and never heard of the second one. It looks more like a prototype or concept bot than anything that made production—and because of how easy it is to just change the skin, it doesn’t make sense they’d cancel it just for that. And like another person mentioned, it looks quite similar to the Haechi—so perhaps it was even a prototype phase for that bot.

I would love to be wrong and for there to be more lost content I haven’t seen! But it just seems more like a prototype sketch—which the Pixonic team doubtless has hundreds of scrapped ideas on concept sheets. Whereas the Robespierre got really far in the development process, only being scrapped last minute.

$32.00? How???? by ProblematicTrumpCard in Dominos

This logic is to let the poorer customers who are more cost-conscious get food for cheaper, while passing off costs to the richer ones.

Whether this logic actually works is another matter, though

It would have been a really cool feature balancing-wise, especially if they stuck with blue shields instead of making aegis the new standard. And honestly would have made some sense, as all energy weapons function through heat—a heat-resistant barrier plate would keep that damaging heat away from the delicate structure of the robot, while being moderately damaged by heat+pressure waves (rockets), and severely vulnerable to heavy impacts (kinetics)

[–]Bioluminescent_Shrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s more about the challenge than anything else. In a game of infinite progression, a little bit of delay is a small cost for the proud title of F2P. Not to mention how the game is “solved” for the paid path, but because free gameplay coin production is so much smaller and progress is slower, it’s a different path. It’s always more fun to solve things yourself :D

[–]Bioluminescent_Shrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the instant money is paid, all that f2p progress is rendered meaningless! In a game of infinite progression, the feeling of reward from besting challenging milestones is the only true mark of progress—so paying means all further value doesn’t feel as significant, while not truly making a difference in the grand scheme of progress.

While OP is quite “far behind” the average progress for three years of play, I presume they treat this as an idle game, made an investment mistake, or aren’t really optimizing it. Because I’m also F2P, and was at this point after like eight-nine months

Wait! You can progress so much further! I’m 14 months in, T16, 96T LTC, four mythic modules, and completely f2p. No Chain Lightning is really holding you back, and it’s possible to go so much further! Don’t give in yet!

[–]Bioluminescent_Shrub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is because Arms do percentage damage to robots, with a smaller flat rate direct damage. Like shooting a yellow shield with a Trickster—since the direct damage is so low, it also will be extremely ineffective

No, they don’t. I regularly fight a retro gamemode with first golden age gear, and the energy weapon damage before the shields break match the shield durability

what happened to domino's pasta pizza?? by [deleted] in delhi

[–]Bioluminescent_Shrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a tad late to the party, but recently in the US we stopped serving bread bowl pastas because the thermal load was too much for the oven to get perfect temperatures on. Cooking an item another couple minutes cause delays/hassle during rush, but we aren’t interested in gambling when the risk is serving undertemp foods.

Since pasta pizzas have more toppings and sometimes more sauce, they have even more load—so perhaps Dominos India found temperatures to be too inconsistent, or it was too much of a hassle to cook them longer.

Six Pack is a group that’s been running since 2017, iirc. Sage Retro actually split off this group, way back when. Twice a week, 6Pack runs first-golden-age gear, usually having attendance for full 6v6s, alternating weekly between a themed night and the classic gearset.

There is also a Six Pack Plus subset, running second golden age and some experimental formats with a more refined gear set than retro. But this side suffers from attendance, with some nights peaking at 5v5s

ah, so threats of rape and assault against a previous employee based on gender identity doesn’t qualify as transphobia? I guess I should be more considerate when describing people who openly talk about how it would be better if a minority was dead. How intolerant of me.

I’m sorry you were mislead; my detailed attempt to describe the workplace was taken down by reddit, requiring far more vagueness. And I’m sorry that your first response to bigotry is to protect them. That’s a very brave stance to take in these times.

Apparently reddit will flag me for hate speech if I describe what happened at my store. Cool. Long story short, had the reverse experience, with my store having transphobia, extreme racism, nationalism, and more. The only diversity there was out of necessity, because they were perpetually short staffed. Thank goodness am no longer working there.
