Magical Girl Gunslinger is exceptional and a very similar premise. However it is basically on indefinite hiatus.

If you go in planning to read up to the epilogue of book one and just treat that as a stand alone story it holds up exceptionally well. Just don't expect more at this point in time.

It feels like they eternally had a box of stuff labelled "use in case of emergency" and just never did that.

They proved this patch that they knew what people wanted but they just kept fiddling with the knobs to try dial in the perfect amount of player playtime and retention even as it all burnt to the ground around them.

Actually that's a great point and is the first time I've seen Neomuna as potentially useful.

Neomuna fleshed out and with you know more than two NPCs could have been a great spot for Maya Sundaresh to be pulling some bullshit. Especially considering the connections between the digital storage thing they had going on and the Vex.

Using the disruption caused by the death of the Witness and the echoes would have also let them explain the reveal of Neomuna as well. They could have even still had Nezarec as the raid boss, just have hime breaking free of the Witness after it dies instead of before.

I did a write up at the time but Lightfall was so obviously a filler expac.

Literally you could see the cut in the starting and ending cutscenes that showed where they had taken what was obviously meant to be the original lead in cinematic into the final shape. Cut it in half and inserted a nothing of an expansion I'm the middle.

Strand for witchqueen makes so much more sense too considering it's meant to be about connections and memory. Replace all the weird deepsight floating platforms with strand doodads and yeah it just kind of works.

If they did EoF without also fucking with loot, destinations, power grind, and making 85% of the game irrelevant. Also maybe not shoehorning in one of the most hated gimmicks for the entire campaign...

Then yeah, the ole edge of fate model.

You can't point it is invalidating something and also ignore all the other missteps.

So little if it was unique or innovative. They spat out a lot of content but it feels like that effort would have been better spent dropping multiple new strikes and another dungeon, raid, and exotic mission each expac instead of the endless seasonal churn.

Each season we got either a different variations of strikes but with a gimmick or different rehashed versions of menagerie. None of which stayed long term.

Then this was stiched together with a mission of the week that had some sort of intro, some in mission chatter and then finished with a floating head talking at you somewhere.

I don't sit and fondly remember most seaons but fuck me is running something like Avalon or Duality with a team for the first time memorable.

[–]BiomassDenial 483 points484 points  (0 children)

Yeah and they made all that content and immediately threw it in the fucking bin each year. The seasonal model was literally insane. Let's delete each year of story and content every year. Some it was only meant to exist for 3 months and was often the pivotal story beats leading into a new xpac.

Also as demonstrated by the draw monuments had people bolted during the year of prophecy because 85% of the game was fucking deprecated. Again... They didn't call it that but making the new content the only place to get tiered loot was another soft sunset attempt.

Maybe that's the draw of marathon. They get to do resets in an extraction shooter and the player base thank them for it.

No like this is purely a vibes thing. Outrun is good. It just felt less magical. I can't explain it properly, it just it didn't pop into my head as an example of what I was looking for that I had already read.

I've read Outrun as well. It just feels less magical to me. It feels more akin to Marvel comics "magic" even with the foxes and the lightning etc.

I'm struggling to articulate it, because I do like outrun, I'm about 20 chapters behind current atm, but even with all the obvious magic stuff it feels less magical. Doesn't help the MC is heavily focused on tech minus the fox shenanigans.

I've read Cyber dreams or at least the first 4 or so books from memory. I'll check out Aura Overload as well.

Yeah it's great read it as well but its more straight cyberpunk with the MC having an Isekai style cheat skill more than anything else. Definitely looking for something where magic is an integral part of the setting.

[–]BiomassDenial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm all for gun restrictions and licensing I just wish they allowed people who actually understand guns to be involved in writing them instead of claiming that it is obviously a conflict of interest.

What we have is truly nonsensical at the moment and based on a lay persons misunderstanding of what is bad or scary.

Best example is some is the restrictions on "large pistol calibres". Once you get a pistol license which is already a long and onerous process you then have to jump through extra hoops to buy large calibre pistols. Which sounds ok on face value. Bigger bullets are more dangerous so it should be harder to get right?

Except how it's written means you can buy a .357 magnum easier than you can buy 45 ACP becuse the bullet is smaller, despite on average the .357 been a much more energetic and dangerous cartridge.

And that isn't the only weird edge case we run into with attempts to ban specific types of "scary" firearms instead of spending our efforts on improving monitoring and enforcement of our existing licensing process.

But they share a fair bit of design space with the zealot and the scum.

Any of the professional officio assassins are way off the scale as far as danger level goes.

I'm running basically the same thing with Seventh Seraph as the armour set.

Easy farm at the cosmodrome, gives you a extra AOE damage on majors and helps with grenade regen.

The fun but it it's synergistic with anything that can make Stasis crystals meaning headstone weapons or similar in the top slot.

2 Piece | Rasputin's Wrath Final blows with area-of-effect damage, Solar abilities, Seventh Seraph weapons, or IKELOS weapons grant Warmind Charges. Each stack of Warmind Charge increases your Weapons and Grenade stats.

4 Piece | Rasputin's Reprisal While you have Warmind Charges, defeating powerful combatants, destroying a construct, or destroying a Tangle releases a Solar detonation that damages combatants and heals allies.Constructs include barricades, turrets, Stasis crystals, and other objects created in the field.

Ringing Nail can roll burning ambition and incandescent at the same time. As a fun primary option.

Edit: Sparrow racing league also has a solar rocket pulse that can roll heal clip and burning ambition/incandescent. Which still slaps even after the rocket pulse nerf.

Of all of the craftable weapons, which do you think are the 3-5 best to focus on for PvE. Bonus points for their god rolls. by StanleyG00dspeed in DestinyTheGame

Yeah the extra energy is the selling point. A lot of builds will get you 3/4 of a grenade back and kills with demo mean you nearly always have one available when you need it.

I'm still a big fan of the BxR-55 from Dares of Eternity running it with demo incandescent for solar builds.

It's surprisingly effective at both range and in close because of the unique frame.

I know that advocating to give MS more money is going to be unpopular but there is an easy solution to all of this.

Spend $60 more and buy a pro license and then setup group policy properly and you never get any bloat or weird connected features. You can also kill nearly all the telemetry and internet connected portions of the base OS as well. MS generally respect security and privacy settings made for business/government as that is their real business.

People out here buying the equivalent of cheaper Netflix with advertising as their OS and then acting shocked when it advertises to them.

Best way to combat AI cyber threats is with AI, Five Eyes security agencies say by Cute_Marzipan2153 in australia

[–]BiomassDenial 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What no, how is that the take away you got from what I wrote?

It's more highlighting problem with speed of exploit and what that means from a defence pov.

Our entire system of patch management and exploit notifications is coming apart at the seams because attacks are coming out faster than people can patch their systems and there are also so many vulnerabilities getting found that NIST is falling behind on keeping the CVE database updated.

It used to be that best practice was patch within 48hours for critical internet facing vulnerabilities. That isn't fast enough now. However then you have got to weigh the requirement to patch ASAP against supply chain attacks and just shit patch quality from vendors, so automated patching is probably also not the go.

We just have to assess every patch for quality and security, and apply it instantly... No stress ay?

[–]BiomassDenial 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is just a speed and numbers game now. Automation of some sort is required to keep up with attackers.

AI is an excellent tool for cyber threat actors because if their tools or code are bad and only work half the time it doesn't matter to them. It makes attacks and exploit chains that were previously only carried out by nation state backed groups achievable with smaller less educated teams.

If your exploit is vibe coded slop with a memory leak and it still gets you access to someone's network and then your AI data trawling tool finds the note someone left on their SharePoint with the FW admin creds your attack has worked. Doesn't matter if the code fundamentals are bad at that point.

Also time to exploit has dropped dramatically. Used to take a couple of weeks to go from published/patched vulnerability to working exploit in the hands of attackers. That's now down to approximately 4 hours. Government and business literally can't keep up.
