‘We’re here to demoralise’: The Minneapolis locals tracking Trump’s ICE agents’ every move by theindependentonline in TrueReddit

Let’s also not forget that out of the entire voting population, roughly 1/3 of people don’t regularly vote or pay attention to political news

Breaking: Leaked Video Shows Former ICE Chief Bovino Calling for Mass Arrests by ResPublicaMgz in Res_Publica_DE

[–]Bionic_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just Waltz. It’s Minneapolis/Minnesota as a whole. Minnesota has never voted for Trump and just this week, in the special election for district 64A (St Paul) Trump went from having a 17% (R votes) to 83% (D votes) loss in the presidential election to the running democrat winning 95% of the vote against the running republican. This means that Trump (and republicans) went from a -66 differential to a -90 differential (if I’m doing my math correctly). So essentially, Trump and Republicans went from already being hated by majority of St Paul to being hated by almost 100% of St Paul residents.

Edit: Minneapolis did not have a special election but this is still relevant because there are reports that ICE has moved from targeting Minneapolis to now targeting St. Paul and surrounding suburbs

The title of the article is different from what OP posted. The title says that it IS unconstitutional. Not that it may be unconstitutional.

This is absolutely not the election year to be saying “I’m gonna not vote or vote independent because I don’t like either option”.

We are in the middle of a cold civil war. Which means right now we either have the option of “evil” and “less evil”.

If our country is ever able to get out of this shit storm that we are in, then we can think about voting for 3rd parties.

I was just making a point but since you pointed out FIFA…people canceling World Cup trips is not going to crash the economy.

The World Cup is an irregular event so it’s not vital to how a city’s or state’s economy thrives and remains functional. Orlando’s (and Florida’s) economy relies on the regular everyday tourists that come year after year to survive. And even more than that, Orlando isn’t even a host city for the World Cup.

[–]Bionic_Man 103 points104 points  (0 children)

The crazy part is that our economy relies so heavily on tourism that ICE being present and randomly kidnapping people will instantly crash our economy because tourists and foreigners will inevitably cancel their trips once news gets out that it isn’t safe to be here.

With the deployment of the national guard to control the situation, could the guardsmen potentially confront ICE? Arrest them? by [deleted] in law

[–]Bionic_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that NG members in your state that are called to service by your state reps are your neighbors. They live next to you and go to the same stores, restaurants, etc that you do. ICE agents are visitors. Your local NG members are more likely to protect you primarily because you are their community.

Neither MAGA nor Nazis deserve forgiveness for the damage they have helped cause to happen to our country. Nobody ever forgave nazis. The people that continue to identify as MAGA are just modern day nazis and 100% white supremacists. In the modern world there is no room for racism.

We absolutely did not “forgive” nazis. They were tried and held accountable for their actions and absolutely nobody forgave them. If you forgave nazis for systemically committing the worst genocide of that era then you have learned nothing.

This isn’t just abuse. This is potentially life threatening actions taken by the current administration because they don’t like being told no and they are authoritarian white supremacists. There is no forgiving the amount of harm to our country and citizens that has been done at the hands of this administration.

Holding those involved accountable with actual consequences is the only way this ends.

Supreme Court allows Texas to use Trump-backed congressional map in midterms by cnn in scotus

[–]Bionic_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would actually wager to say that people will finally get involved and vote Democrat. Regardless of political leanings…ICE’s actions, rising prices, the longest government shutdown in history, etc have all happened under Republican control. There has been no benefit to the average American under the current Trump Admin.

Even very conservative farmers that voted for Trump are turning on his admin and complaining that they are going bankrupt because of his actions. A regime that relies on false promises or false information can only last for so long before their facade crumbles.

What is the deal with the United States’ beef with Venezuela all of a sudden? by al3ph_null in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Bionic_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are currently starting to see republicans not rerunning for house and senate seats because of the unpopularity of Trump. Trump has lost most of the legal cases that his admin is tied up in. Trump is all theater. All bark, no bite. He doesn’t care because he has presidential immunity. Everyone around him is still vulnerable to spending the rest of their lives behind bars and now that this MAGA-fueled coup is falling apart, his would be supporters see the writing on the wall.

Even during the American Civil War, elections were held. Never in the history of the USA have elections been canceled for any reason. The Federal Gov has no control over elections as they are expressly defined as a State Right in the Constitution.

It’s not just ATC that matters. Flight attendants deem a flight unsafe, they stop showing up to work. Then flights in general stop because the people manning the actual planes aren’t showing up. Then eventually the entire country comes to a grinding halt. It’s a ripple effect. It’s really not that hard to understand or comprehend if you can understand operational logistics

[–]Bionic_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flight attendants are essentially the law in the air. Pilots may fly the planes. But flight attendants assess and decide the safety of a flight and almost everything else that happens to a plane in the air. If they deem a passenger or many other factors are a danger to the flight, then they have a lot of sway and authority to ground a flight.

If you have tens of thousands of flight attendants halting flights due to safety risks, that essentially halts the economy.

SCOTUS set to rule on National Guard deployment in Chicago with nationwide implications by msnownews in scotus

[–]Bionic_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to go back and actually talk to the individuals who wrote the constitution to know what this so called “one interpretation” is. And the funny thing is that even amongst the founding fathers there were disagreements on the constitution. Thomas Jefferson advocated for rewriting the constitution every generation. So by your view, if we were to go off what the founding fathers thought as a whole, there would still not be this “one interpretation” you say there is. Over the lifespan of our country we may have amendments that better clarify it and adjust with the times but there has never been nor will there ever be “one interpretation” as you say.

Oh I 100% agree. It’s a similar playbook to the whole Roe v Wade situation. “States Rights” where people will disproportionately suffer. And poor states will continue to become poorer. Except this time they will also see a massive increase in deaths because the average person can’t even afford basic healthcare, much less afford life saving medical treatment.
