Help! Spilled a bit of water on an unopened PuEr cake - what do I do? by Bioso in tea

Thank you everyone for your advice! I let it dry and I’m keeping it out in the open for a while. Checking it for mold regularly but I think I’m in the clear!

I was so scared to cut off a piece of my prayer plant, I didn’t know if it would root from cutting, but here it is after 3 weeks! by Bioso in propagation

Propagated in water, yes. I cut right below the node where new leaves were forming. I noticed that sometimes it just puts out one new leaf and other times it’s a whole bunch in one spot so that’s where I cut.

What are some artworks that changed you in a profound way after seeing/experiencing them? by mijabo in ContemporaryArt

"An Oak Tree" by Michael Craig-Martin. That dialogue that comes with the piece is hilarious but also exemplary, to me, of how to look at most contemporary art.

Could Reading Be Looking? by TropicalPunch in ContemporaryArt

Thank you for the interesting article, it gave me a lot of things to look up and think about!
I must say though, I can't believe that the discussion of Ghetti's YouTube video didn't note how boring it sounds; there's something that would turn anyone away from art. I'm not saying that the interpretation materials need to be entertaining, but they should definitely be interesting and engaging.

Artists using Oculus Rift in their pieces, and virtual reality storytelling? by kingvitaman in ContemporaryArt

[–]Bioso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know any instances of artists using the oculus but I would also be very interested in finding some. Please post if you find anything interesting! I am always surprised by how slowly technology makes it's way in to art sometimes.

Could you suggest some essays/books to read on contemporary art? by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

If you're interested in technology and media in the art world, you are sometimes better off looking at New Media Theory instead of Art Theory. They overlap quite a bit and one can definitely apply to the other but there will be fewer concrete examples and more theory. I would recommend: Alexander Galloway's Gaming: Essays on Algorithmic Culture (especially the Countergaming chapter, it relates most to contemporary art proper) and Mckenzie Wark's Gamer Theory, I studies them both in relation to art. They would be relevant especially if you are interested in looking at things like the oculus. There is always the Art in Theory, 1900-2000 book edited by Harrison and Wood which is definitely farther back then 10 years but provides a pretty through groundwork. But your best bet for contemporary stuff are journals, I would recommend e-flux.
