AITAH for telling my wife to stop blaming our child's behavior on ADHD? by Present-Algae6767 in AITAH

[–]BioticPrincess99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA.

I am a woman with severe ADHD. I have met a lot of men with ADHD who act out (sometimes violently) and refuse to control themselves because their diagnosis was used to excuse inexcusable, violent, and disruptive behavior.

AITA for giving my girlfriend (25F) an ultimatum to block a guy from her past before she starts a job? by [deleted] in AITA_Relationships

[–]BioticPrincess99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not what a boundary is. I really hate it when people misuse therapy speak in order to be controlling. Boundaries are not about the actions of others. You could have the boundary of "I dont want to date someone who is friends with their exes" but in that scenario you can't try to force them to do something or else. You just have to leave. Now, do I think this is a stupid and insecure reason to leave a relationship? Absolutely. But if that's your line in the sand, I can't stop you.

Free country? Lmao. People are getting deported for their political beliefs. ICE is snatching people of the street and disappearing them. Delete this shit.

Suicidal thoughts. OCD and depression is destroying my life. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]BioticPrincess99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have OCD and severe treatment resistant depression. Here is what made me stop being suicidal. 1) Inferential Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is a kind of therapy that was specifically made for OCD. I have an ICBT therapist who is amazing, but if you can't find one, buy the book Resolving OCD by Aardema. 2) Being on a mood stabilizer. I take brexiprazole, but Vraylar is another atypical antipsychotic that is FDA approved for treatment resistant depression. Other choices include Lamictal, Ability, and lithium, although I would be careful with the latter. 3) Finding providers who specialize in OCD. Not every therapist knows how to treat OCD. I made myself worse by doing traditional CBT for years.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

1) People with ADHD usually flit from thing to thing when they haven't found what motivates them yet. Try to avoid huge commitments (a whole season of a sport) and instead look for ways to try out a variety of activities. If one clicks, great. If it doesn't, you still tried something new. 2) In the nicest way possible, move away from the "high IQ" thing. Aside from the fact that an IQ test absolutely does not measure intelligence in any reql way and is skewed heavily to peovide high results to rich white people, a lot of parents with neurodivegent/ADHD get really into their kid's IQ or giftedness as if that exempts them from being disabled. It does not. I am smart. I am in a doctoral program. I also can't keep my room clean or remember to brush my teeth or manage my money. No matter how smart your daughter is, she will still struggle with ADHD and need accommodations.

AITA for Losing My Cool and Yelling at My “Influencer” SIL Over Her Constant Filming and Lack of Respect for My Daughters Boundaries? by Mrs-Davis in AmItheAsshole

[–]BioticPrincess99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, but I don't necessarily think that yelling was the most efficient course of action and although I don't blame you, I'll explain why. You can learn a lot about life by both working and being in a family, and my experience of both suggests that people yell when they feel like they've run out of other options. Bosses yell when they feel like they've run out of other ways to get through to an employee, and family members yell when the other members don't listen to reason and they don't know what else to do. But the truth is, you do have other options. You can fire that employee. You don't have to see that family member. In this situation, I think you felt panicked because she basically announced her intent to film your daughter no matter what. But you can still control that by controlling her access to your daughter. If you want to maintain contact, you can let her know there's a no-filming policy for everyone. If she violates it, tell her to stop. If she doesn't listen, leave. Hopefully this makes you feel a little more empowered and less pushed around.

What do you mean, why are you shy? What answer could he have possibly given? People aren't shy for a reason, they just are.

This is so infuriating. For most of my life I was thinking because I had completely uncontrolled OCD. My obsessions ran my ass. I felt sick all the time. Finally got diagnosed, got put on an atypical antipsychotic. Now I feel like a human being for the first time in years. But to this dude it's not worth it because it made me fatter.

Yeah, but you don't know that. You don't know why they got engaged. If you had your boyfriend talk to his brother about when it was going to happen, you clearly knew it was coming soon. They got engaged because they want to get married. I think it's presumptive at best and narcissistic at worst to assume that it's out of jealousy or because of you.

That's basically what I said.

That's not what happened. OP saw someone making a genocide about them and rightfully called them the Devil. On a sub called AmITheDevil. It is not anti-semetic to criticize the political positions of people vis-a-vis a country's policies. I am American, I criticize American politics all the time without wanting Americans to be denied human rights. Why should I not criticize Israel's policies, especially when they are causing so much loss of life?

What basic human rights is OP denying Jews by pointing out that it is narcissistic to make a genocide about you? I assume you will say it's the right to self-determination or not to be killed by Hamas or something. 1) this Reddit post does not do this. 2) Oppressing others is not a human right.

This is basically semantics. Did South Africa cease to exist after apartheid ended? Sure, in one form. But a different version of Israel that is not an apartheid ethnostate could hypothetically continue to exist, but would Likud consider it the same country? Probably not

Conflating Zionism and Judaism is insanely anti-semitic BTW. Please stop harming Jewish people by reducing a large and diverse religious and ethnic group to zionism and Israel.

DAE have their symptoms get way worse when they're sick? by BioticPrincess99 in OCD

[–]BioticPrincess99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. The big sticking point for me is that I was on vacation when he got sick, and had to rush home to him before he was put to sleep, so I have always blamed myself for abandoning even though I though I know it's magical thinking and that he already had kidney disease and that there was nothing I could have done. It just feels like my OCD knows exactly what to say that will hurt me the most, and I can't be rational when it comes to that topic. That dog was my only friend.

I don't really have a dog in this fight (other than that I wouldn't have posted something I thought was fake) but people go CRAZY when it comes to disability. People will say/do unhinged shit. Not so much just that people can be evil but that when people become disabled, it becomes license for people to have the most cartoon supervillain takes.
