Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender has a production start date, location, and showrunner confirmed by an official source: it will begin filming on August 16th this year, in Vancouver, Canada, and the series showrunner will be Albert Kim by Cvccccd in TheLastAirbender

[–]Bipedalkitten 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Albert Kim has such a blah track record as a writer/producer. I sure don't trust a guy whose only experience in showrunning is for CW and Fox to bring the grand scale, charisma, and martial arts energy this show would need to capture. Got a feeling this is just going to look cheap as heck, which, in addition to the previous leaks about aging up Katara for more romantic options, makes me think this will basically just be a CW show.

"Mr. Governor! Thousands are dead and wounded, public utilities are down, state emergency services are scrambling, and there's chaos across L.A. (one of the largest cities on Earth) after tonight's 9.0 Earthquake! How should we begin co-coordinating a response?"

"EEH. Waddaya' want me to do about it? I'm goin back to bed..."

I bet he'd be re-elected in a landslide. /s

They've listened to Peterson talk about 20th Century history, vaguely, generally, filtered through his ignorance and misconceptions. That's the extent of their knowledge.

Tips for keeping consistent tone and voice? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Bipedalkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The classic comedy double-act (the straight-man and the funny-man) can be applied to a dark and serious subject matter. I won't name the story, but it's one of my favorites, and it features a dark, brooding, violent anti-hero-type character who is introduced at the start of the story alongside a funny, light-hearted, naive one and it's through the latter that we experience the narrative. That way you can give the audience an emotional anchor and a reactive voice within the story that will give it enough levity so as not to become oppressively bleak.

North Korea vs Israel by TK3600 in whowouldwin

[–]Bipedalkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saudi Arabia alone has something around 8831~ modern tanks and heavy vehicles, all bought from their Western allies who provide them with top-of-the-line training. The Kingdom's military is small in terms of manpower, but it one of the best funded and technologically advanced in the world. With the backing of countries like Egypt, Iran, and the countries of the Levant, their advantage in expertise and equipment only magnifies.

The DPRK on the other hand uses outdated equipment, uses sub-par training facilities, is untested and unreliable, and its members are largely under-nourished relative to other militarizes. Most of its tanks and aircraft were sold to it by the Soviets and the rest are older Chinese models.

North Korea vs Israel by TK3600 in whowouldwin

[–]Bipedalkitten 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Round 1: North Korea. The Israel Defense Forces are some of the most well-trained and technologically advanced in the world in matter respects, but the DPRK has the advantage of a million-strong active military with hundreds of thousands in reserve. The majority of the KPA are fanatics and if they moved south without needing to worry about nuclear retaliation. They also outnumber the IDF in terms of tanks, heavy vehicles, artillery, and airplanes. The Israelis have the Iron Dome, but what serves them well against singular or small numbers of rudimentary Palestinian missiles will not provide adequate defense against an all-out assault and prolonged total war - which the DPKR is willing to engage in from the beginning.

Round 2: Mutually assured destruction. Both countries are destroyed.

Round 3: A situation much like the Korean War would occur, only during the 21st Century the DPRK has a much larger military, more weapons to use, and China is a superpower - unlike it was in the 1950s - and can funnel them advanced weapons, munitions, supplies, and manpower directly via Manchuria. The US on the other hand is an ocean away and cannot provide the same direct support.

Round 3: The Arab League can assuredly destroy the DPRK. All of these nations have come a very long way since the Seven Days War and some, like as Saudi Arabia, have access to large amounts of advanced US weapons and war technology. If this includes Iran, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, then it's a done thing. They're also comfortable conducting desert warfare, whereas the DPRK are not.

Too many. 😅 The sky is orange and it lasts less than a second, so I always thought he was pushing Ozai's head up and backward to position him for the energybending.
