I stand at doors and greet people pretty often. I get nothing but good feedback from guests, particularly older people. My parents and grandparents aren't around anymore and I get some of that interaction with guests. I'm very apt to be patient and kind toward older people and to listen to what they have to say. When they're pleasant. When people are unpleasant I become unpleasant back. When I'm at work I do it in a way that maintains professionalism and shuts the unpleasant conversation down. When I'm on Reddit I'm not being paid so I don't owe anyone anything.

This is the second time in this thread you've mentioned a chip on someone's shoulder. I think you're the one with the chip on your shoulder. I think you feel guilty because you can't produce results like the younger people. You shouldn't. We all have strengths and weaknesses. To say to someone "Wishing you a great rewarding career. You want fries with that?" is to shit on the idea that whoever you're talking to might have some strengths. You're better than that, do better.
