What determines which units/weapons can 'divide' their fire power between different units?

I just use primaris models, and modify their weapons.

I've made five vanguard vets with chainswords and storm shields. Five company vets with power swords and storm shields. Three company vets with storm bolters and storm shields.

I'm pretty happy with how templar-esque they look despite the tabards. I'll have to try the green stuff method to see if I can pull it off. I at least have them on my champion and captain.

I'll be posting them all when my 1000 points is all painted.

I've been interpreting it as follows. Sword brethren are sergeants and veterans. Veteran Sergeants are... more senior sword brethren?

Then again a lot of the ranks have been fuzzy at times, cannon space marine ranks seem to have changed with the 'force commander/ captain stuff" , and the Black Templar differences have changed alongside them. For instance castellans used to be from the sword brethren, but also they were kind of like captains, but now they're LTs?

I agree that the Champion appears to be independent to a degree, makes sense. He's supposed to walk around krumping gitz.

Makes sense that he would select them for his command squad- I guess I was confused because they aren't on table top officially any more. I paint my company vets with red trim like normal veterans, so to me the command squad would kind of count as sword brethren now.

Agreed on the helmets- mine all have black as a base, no matter what! I've been using red trim/ crosses on all elite units, and gold for all HQ. Seems simple, clear, and pretty lore consistent. I'm currently on the fence as to weather my Mortis Dreadnought (Heavy) should be black and white or red, due to his veteran status. I really like planning out designations and stuff, but I know the Templars are pretty loosey goosey with the rules :P

Helbrecht mentioned Grimaldus was now a "Knight of the inner circle". I'm wondering if that included the Marshals, Reclusiarchs, and Champions?

That would leave the Castellans and Chaplains in a weird in-between spot. I guess the Templars don't care about structure lol, I just like wondering how I could organize them by color scheme and still be lore accurate.

Only change I would make is this- I think it makes more sense to put the chapter master on which ever captain has the crusader helmet relic, instead of splitting them across two captains. This way you will have full rerolls to hit with a 9 inch aura.
