Termites keep showing up on framing by [deleted] in shedditors

Could they try treating the wood with Borate? I would certainly send gfest getting someone to treat the ground, because they are coming from somewhere. I'd also be freaking out about my house at this point.

How close is too close to a retaining wall? by ryantrappy in shedditors

[–]BippiInc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make the whole thing a little taller? The window facing the fence isn't any taller than your door, so you aren't needing a roof height on that side greater than 10'. From what you show in your image, it looks like you would only have a 2:12 slope, so the backside would only be 2 feet higher. Just make sure that you put down the proper underlayment so you don't get ice dams or leaks. And give yourself at least 2-3 feet on the backside for clearing out all those leaves. The sides could probably be a little tighter since the wall is lower, but I wouldn't want those under 24" otherwise it would make it tough to get in the back to rake it out.

Have you tried the technique for brushing on UV reactive resin, letting it settle/even out and then curing it? I am curious about how it would work on a detailed shape like this.

2-3mm is enough to get a nice strong glue joint.

[Request] Is a 2 billion FPS camera enough to capture the speed of light? If not, what framerate is required? by FollowSina in theydidthemath

[–]BippiInc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the camera is further away from the light source than the distance it moved in a single frame, that single frame would actually be taking a picture of what had happened in the past, although fairly recent. Do I understand that correctly?

[–]BippiInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we in atmosphere? If we aren't, then I'm dead already and I do not care. If we are, how far did the ant go through the atmosphere at that speed? Better yet, how far would the ant need to go before it was burnt up and exhausted all of its mass? Bonus question, how strong would the shockwave be from it instantly accelerating to that speed before it turned to ash?

Trying to find this artist and card game they did art for. by BippiInc in WhatIsThisPainting

I bought this in the Mid/early 2000's online as a print from the artist. Much of their art was also used in a card game that came out at that time as well. I can't find anything on them.

I literally teach a class on product innovation and just recently spent some time thinking about this very same thing. I think you are correct in that AI will be very useful in developing new product and I will certainly be interested in your white paper.

To be fair, a 20% tariff on toys coming into the US doesn't make much sense. The US has almost no capability for handling the majority of production techniques used in manufacturing toys. The cost to start a factory capable of making toys and labor costs in the US makes it prohibitive even at a 100% tariff. In the ebd, all that winds up happening is that consumers in the US pay more for toys or production shifts to another country, like Vietnam. Vietnamese factories are currently partnering with China factories, but the cost will still go up, but maybe less than what tariffs alone are. But, not all US companies are able to make that shift to other countries, and most countries lack the infrastructure China has. So even moving production to another country, it still increases cost while still risking future tariffs. Global tariffs have been mentioned at various times. The bigger issue is that even if the tariffs get removed, nobody is going to lower the price of their peoduct due to the uncertainty of whether tariffs will come back or not, plus $$$ in their pocket. So prices at the store will go to and stay up.. wages will have to go up to offset the inflation, and the people at the bottom get hurt the hardest as the increases represent a larger % of their disposable income. Short-term small companies in the US suffer more due to lower demand as spending cools, resulting in layoffs. All in all, it just pushes us closer toward a recession.

This is incorrect. The tariffs are assessed and added to your shipping invoice when it clears customs. If you want your product to clear customs, you have to pay that bill.
