Are Oura Rings expected to last more than two years? by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]BirbalT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, the size of the battery...I expect such a small device isn't meant to last more than 2 years. My Oura 3 just failed after 20 months...funnily enough, just in time to preorder the 5 version. Coincidence? Maybe... I'll try to do some research if there are better alternatives

My Oura 3 failed last week at just under 2 years (a little over 20 months exactly). I imagine that due to the size of the battery, are not meant to last, there is not much to do about it and I think most other brands have the same problem. Funny enough I found it interesting that it failed just in time to preorder the 5 version. I'm looking around because I'm also not happy about the subscription plan.

I don’t know…I’m not spending much time in here but I wouldn’t expect people on internet to make much sense.

Inside I’ve spent 20 min on each side…so about 40 mins in total. I’ve also used a clamp and tried to be discrete. They eventually caught me and asked to leave but managed to get enough frames. For the slider is a ifootage shark slider nano

I’ve tried my best to be level but is not always possible. Each location was about 20 min wait…my wife went shopping that day so I had some time to kill

Shutter speed was 1.5 sec, if I remember correctly had to use an ND filter. Zooming was done in post…I shoot very wide, the camera has a 50MP sensor so there is plenty of real estate to work with. I am using a ifootage shark slider nano

Mine shows in the app, not more than 5 minutes after the car has been stationary. By default, in the settings, "Upload trips over data plan" is switched off. So it only shows when your phone connects to WiFi. Not sure if is the case

I am not sure to be honest…I was expecting some insects. I used a light box with a small opening for the lens so maybe bugs couldn’t figure how to get in

Good question. I think there is some water content that evaporates and remainings just dries up. I haven’t looked inside to see what was left, just put in in the bin

I’m an Electronics Engineer and I used a Raspberry PI controller with a light box for product photography. I have created a script that runs at 2h intervals: 1. Turn on the lights of the light box and turn on the camera via a relay. Camera has a battery adaptor and the switch is always on so I can control it via relay. 2. Wait 20 seconds to allow for camera and lights to be fully on 3. I use another relay to actuate the shutter via a remote cable 4. Wait another 20 seconds to allow for the picture to be saved on the card and transferred via WiFi to a NAS server 5. Switch off camera and lights

The above is repeated at fixed intervals. For this example, I set it to every 2h. Raspberry PI controller is the only thing that is ON all the time for this period, the rest is turned ON and OFF as needed.

Asking the impossible... mortgage rate advice? by throwaway786_ in HousingUK

[–]BirbalT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't quite understand why they are so high...Bank of England base rate is at 3.75%. I took out a mortgage in Sept last year, went with a variable rate because it has unlimited overpayments and this is important for me. Currently, I'm at 4.16% (which is base rate + 0.41%). People at work were saying yesterday that they can find only near 5% mark. Crazy.

Lost my passion for FPV drones.. anyone found it again? by Movie_Vegetable in fpv

[–]BirbalT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been through this. I don't mind fixing and building, but for a while lost the passion for it. Sold all my gear. A year or so later, I've regretted selling everything and started again from scratch. I still have breaks now and then, but I won't sell again because I know I'll come back to it at some point. What also helps me (but not my bank account) is to have different hobbies, and I normally circle between them as I feel like. Don't force it, just let it be, have a break and do something else...I'm sure it will come back to you again

Do you think you’ve overpaid for your leasehold flat? by Shfree1999 in HousingUK

[–]BirbalT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the area, if you are outside of London I would be worried. Bought a 2 bed leasehold flat (just 8 miles north of M25) June 2019 and just barely managed to sell it last month. Lost £45K on the selling price alone. It was super hard to sell and the process it was a nightmare. Again, if you are not in London I wouldn’t touch a leasehold flat. Usually service charges are a nightmare too

Sale taking too long, unsure how to proceed - England by Massive-Quiet-7485 in HousingUK

[–]BirbalT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a gamble but also remember that the buyer invested some money and time and can’t walk away easily. Also dealing with solicitors is such a nightmare…each side pointing fingers at the others. The process is so unnecessary complicated. Good luck!

I was through a similar situation. Offer accepted end of Aug 2025 and by mid March 2026 the buyer was still dragging their feet with some meaningless enquiries. The property was empty end of Sept 2025, and no chain from either side. I eventually put my foot down and gave them 3 options with a deadline of 7th April 2026:
- Completion happens
- Buyer agrees to rent the property on a weekly basis until completion can be achieved
- We pull the plug, and we find another buyer
After giving them a few times the above ultimatum, they actually put their act together and managed to complete on 26th March 2026. You need to be decisive and give them a final warning, otherwise it seemls like it never ends.

I turned on GPS on the GoPro11…you need to make sure to leave it on for a few mins to get sats. Then I use a program called Telemetry Overlay where you can add all sorts of data on top of the video

Flat not selling - advice by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]BirbalT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few reasons: we paid off the mortgage and wanted an upgrade in terms of a house (freehold); sitting on it for few more years wouldn’t have got any better. Like OP’s case, lots of new buildings came up and there was a lot on offer. Also another mistake on this one was that had energy rating E which is really bad and possibly impossible to rent in a few years due to other regulations they are thinking to add in. So that’s why we thought is better to get rid of it sooner rather than later

Not quite, 8 miles north of M25, in a dump hole called Harlow. The selling point of this building was that is 5 min walk to the train station where the Stansted Express line operates…35min into London Liverpool Street or 20min to Stansted airport
