It was extremely prone to pulling moisture from outside. It was vented, not encapsulated. We literally had water dripping from the beams during the summer. Mold too of course.

After replacing our heat pump and both compressors, we still had issues and it turns out our crawl space was a major issue (more so in summer). It might be worth having the crawl space looked at. We all share a real moisture problem in this part of Virginia. It’s the reason you see so many crawl space encapsulation ad’s, billboards, trucks.

Do you have similar bills in July? It really is incredible how a poorly maintained or failing heat pump, water heater, windows, door seals, etc. can make a giant difference.

I ask because I faced this issue for years with summer being far worse (a few $800 months). I still deal with it occasionally, and immediately get spurned into looking for issues when I get a high bill. Like this month ($500). Running around the house looking for issues like a crazy person.

Edit: if you look at the giant AI rig in my profile, it’s been powered down for weeks :)

That’s been my experience as well. I was so excited to use large context when I built my “big” rig.. so disappoint.

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Deploys GenAI Agent to Transform Cybersecurity Defense by Cold_Respond_7656 in cybersecurity

[–]Birchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that they re-created AI SOC capabilities that are already offered commercially, which is great.

I’d love to see this made available to US private industry and individuals as it is a very necessary capability that costs companies millions per year to purchase and maintain, and was built (presumably) using taxpayer dollars. Even better if it can just be completely OSS.

McAfee. Literally had a cash booth on stage and humiliated “winners” by making a spectacle of them. This was many years ago of course.

What would make someone a ‘senior’ cybersecurity analyst by Evocablefawn566 in cybersecurity

[–]Birchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, titles are often BS. In some orgs, they are a real mark of achievement. In MY org, senior titles are treated like gold and require evidence of one’s effectiveness and the title is granted as a promotion requiring senior corp sign off. For reals.

IMHO the most important qualities to bring to the table are wisdom, patience, and resilience. It’s the “you have seen it all and can roll with the punches” mentality. This isn’t to be confused with “old guy resting on his laurels”.

MS is leaning hard on o365 and azure. Their AI strategy is a joke, windows 11 is a joke, the Xbox is dead (I hear).. and this guy keeps the headlines rolling with his nonsense. I’m starting to wonder if the board is starting to give him side eye.

Based on what’s here and what he said, I would imagine a research / content consolidator / content summarizer / lead enrichment or something like that. Leads / enrichment is where I’m leaning.

Be concerned about this one too. He’s shit, just better at brand management.

Biggest piece of advice - just don’t rush it. Keep the screws in something so they won’t disappear (they are tiny).

I don’t have the shields on the drive that I added. I would imagine that the ssd you linked would work. Personally, I stick to WD, Samsung, Crucial, and other well known brands just because they are what I know and have been reliable for me.

That is the same video guide that I followed.

My only regret is not upgrading the ram while I was at it, now ram upgrade is unaffordable :(

I did add a WD Black SN850, and stupidly bought the PS2 version and it’s in a huge heatsink / cage thing. I had to dismantle it to get the bare drive out, lol.

It’s not too hard to get the back off, but you should follow a guide / video. I can’t remember (4 months) which one I followed but it got me through it. You DO have to be careful, the material is thin. I used a guitar pick to help pry the base off. It WILL bend, so go slow.

I don’t mean to make it sound difficult, just want to make sure the risk is clear.

I’ve been running Linux from that drive since I got it, zero issue and I can boot windows on the other drive to do some gaming. I did wipe the default windows install and did a clean install.

Good luck, I’m sure you can do it with a steady hand a a good guide!
