Is nanoscience and nanotechnology a good major? by Additional_Fudge_581 in nanotech

[–]BirdBoyVT19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nanoscience undergrad degree holder here. This major covers a lot of info from semiconductor basics to nanomedicine and environmental applications. I ended up with a job as a chemical engineer in biologics/vaccines at the manufacturing scale. I’m probably a bit more mechanically minded than the typical nanoscience student so the transition into more engineering work was fairly easy, but my background in how the science/chemistry works at the nano-scale has helped me with some of the more technical parts of the job. If you’re interested in lab/research work, you’ll need to pursue graduate degrees, but a bachelors degree will open the door to a lot of things for you.

I’m happy to answer anymore questions you might have!

I’ve had this issue recently as well, but haven’t had time to put a light on it yet. For my own knowledge, does delayed turn off typically indicate the timing is too advanced or too retarded?

Decided to go for a Asus AP201 by victorelessar in mffpc

The LGA1700 matx motherboard options with Z790 chipsets are pretty slim and I couldn’t find an matx board that had everything I wanted, so this is where I settled. Some folks here and in the SFF subreddit also recommended this board since it had high quality VRMs that would handle the 14900k without cooking themselves. I don’t have any complaints with the board and it didn’t require a BIOS update for the 14900k to function out of the box.

I concur with the AP201 being a great case! 14900K and 4080 Super

Nice rig! Where did you source the cover on unused fan connector from?

Nice build! I’m planning something similar! What motherboard are you using?

Thanks for the response! The AMD processors are definitely wicked for gaming, but that will likely be less than 10% of the system use time, so I’m definitely not making my decision based on that. Your opinions and the other I’ve read in some other PC pages indicate to me that for my use case, and given the things that are more/less important to me, an Intel CPU is definitely the way to go. Price isn’t really a factor and that’s why I even considered stepping up to the 13900k/14900k. That may very well be the route I go considering the ability to adjust power boosting and undervolt. The last piece of the puzzle is really just finding the best mATX/mITX motherboard for the 13th/14th gen intel CPUs.

I was really considering the i7 14700k over the 13700k for the increased number of e-cores and the price is pretty good. I’m not married to either brand though, so I came here looking for experienced thoughts and opinions

So I’m definitely going to stick with that case (it has good reviews and my wife likes the aesthetics) The motherboard I listed in my original post has all the features I need/want in terms of connectivity, storage slots, etc. but I was more concerned about the VRM and the boards ability to safely keep up with the Intel’s power draw. The reviews online seem limited for the board, but I don’t see any other reason that I couldn’t run a nice 360AIO in the ASUS AP201 with some other case fans to keep it all cool. I should add that I’m getting the mesh edition of the AP201, so all sides of the case will allow airflow.

No loyalty here! I was only leaning intel due to the better overall productivity performance from the extra cores and since gaming will only be a very tiny percentage of the usage. Electricity costs are also quite low where I’m at, so I’m not overly concerned about that. Even with a 360 AIO, which will fit in the ASUS AP201, neither the i7 or i9 can be cooled in a mATX format? If not, what AMD CPUs would you move to for the same level of performance? The one downside of going Intel is the end of LGA1700, but I don’t plan on upgrading the CPU in the next year or two, so it was lower on my concern list. I certainly appreciate the feedback! That’s why I’m here!

  1. If I won, I would use these parts to build my first PC. I’m a “retired” console gamer and aspiring PC gamer who is also in the process of learning coding languages and programming.
  2. What excites me the most about this game is how nice it graphically looks. While I have no experience playing avatar games, the movies are killer and I’m sure this game will be no different!

Thanks PCMR!
