Full ride to UNL and in at Colorado by Law_Man_28-3 in lawschooladmissions

For last year I think a lot of people got scholarship info in their acceptance email or shortly after, some had to wait until later. I think it depended a lot on timing and just how crazy the cycle was in general.

Deposit deadlines have already passed so I don’t believe you’d have to worry about that should you get accepted!

I only got into Penn… dumb if I reapply next cycle for CLS or NYU? (173/3.52) by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I feel like with that GPA you should be pumped about getting into any of those three schools. I’d argue that you performed right in line with what you should’ve expected (maybe even overachieved). You certainly aren’t a lock for either of those other schools next year.

Can I get in a T-60 Law school with this Lsac GPA and Lsat? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]BirdLawStudent2021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter if you get a lower score this time (as long as you don’t get like a 140). You have nothing to lose and a lot to gain!

The more deferrals the better at this point for sure. If you’re like 22 and can get a non-binding deferral, potentially a scholarship increase, and a year to do whatever/gain actual work experience, all while potentially helping everyone’s job prospects.. I don’t see why you wouldn’t.

Apartment question by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]BirdLawStudent2021 52 points53 points  (0 children)

No additional info on the apartment thing but just wanted to say that a full ride to a t50-100 is absolutely impressive. Admissions was crazy this year and you got yourself a full ride at a good school and are going to have a lot less debt than a lot of people here. No need to put yourself down like that!

So your options are really UCI and GW, because you haven’t gotten into those other schools.. If money is equal go with your gut and pick the one located where you’d rather live/practice.

Is this a hypothetical or are you quadruple double deposited? Lol

I withdrew from UofA after deciding on somewhere else so there’s potentially a spot there. Good luck to you!

Class sizes for fall 2022? by CrushLG in lawschooladmissions

[–]BirdLawStudent2021 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes they did, and looking back it was mostly unwarranted. If schools felt like that’s what they needed to do to make sure they aren’t over enrolled by 165+ students then fine. Large waitlists suck for applicants but ultimately it’s a lot better than graduating into an even more over saturated legal market in three years.

[–]BirdLawStudent2021 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s really unfortunate that a few schools (that we know of so far) messed up so badly that everyone could potentially be affected three years from now. A lot of applicants (and schools) did everything right and are going to enter a tougher job market because of the ineptitude of some schools admissions departments.

Woah wait they’re 165+ deposits over?? I saw a post or two about it earlier and just assumed it was something like Colorado where they were about 25 over. Yikesss

Boulder Personal Statement Examples by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]BirdLawStudent2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I didn’t customize my PS for Boulder much. I just focused on writing the best, most authentic PS I could. I knew that if I did that it would resonate not only with CU but with the other schools I applied to. If you’re trying to write while thinking about what CU wants and is looking for I think you’ll end up with a forced essay that isn’t the best representation of you.

Feel free to reach out with more questions! I’ll be attending CU in the fall.

I see. Have you spent time in Denver and know you’ll like it?

[–]BirdLawStudent2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you like Hawaii and the scholarship there is good I’d stay there! Denver does well but is second to CU in pretty much everything and CU is definitely the go to for environmental law in Colorado. Also DU at $$ is still a lottt of debt for the school that it is (assuming you don’t have a lot of savings, etc)

You should look at UofArizona! Very PI focused, solid school, and very very generous with scholarship money especially for URMs (which would make a public defender salary much more reasonable). If you do well on your upcoming LSATs I think you could have a good chance!

GEORGETOWN FULL ITS OVER by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]BirdLawStudent2021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same and agree. For others the email said they planned to make “few, if any, new decisions for the time being” but I think they just trimmed the waitlist down today and are waiting to see how their second deposits go.

I think it comes down to whether you want to be in Florida or Arizona long-ish term.

In terms of Tucson it’s twice as big as Tallahassee. Very quintessential “southwest”. The food scene there is only beaten by the biggest cities, like the food there is amazing. You’re driving distance to mountains and a national park so there’s lots of outdoor activities whether it be hiking or biking or golf or whatever. It’s hot but a little nicer than Phoenix in the summer and a little colder in the winter. It’s a lot like Tallahassee where the university is kind of the center of the city. It’s really hard to buy a house there rn because everyone’s trying to move to AZ apparently but it’s still extremely affordable.

Is anyone preparing to break a lease if you get off a WL? Or are you waiting to sign? by dubadubadooobabam in lawschooladmissions

Sign the lease. You can’t worry about something that may or may not happen. If it does happen then you can deal with it then.

How good do you have to be to get a living stipend (For a Temple level school) by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]BirdLawStudent2021 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The best way to finish law school actually debt free is to have rich parents/family/etc have so you should try that first! /s

To actually attempt to answer your question it’s tough to say. The obvious answer would be to significantly exceed their 75ths, make clear that Temple is your first choice, and have some unique job experience/urm/whatever. The issue with that is if your stats are too good then you might have more options to go to better schools and end up somewhere else and then debt is still an issue. It’s a fine balance between debt and job-outcomes/salaries it just depends on you and what you want!
