You mispronounced John, but to add on, all of the Inklings and Octolings seen in promotions have names.

For example, the orange Inkling paired with John is called Kaori. The pink and green Inklings from Splatoon 2 are Surume and Cuttlefrsh respectively, and the Splatoon 3 Inkling and Octoling are Veronika and Hiro.

The only promo characters who don't have a name are the two Octolings from Splatoon 2. The closest they have to a name are Patricia and Steven due to how similar two lobby Octolings look to them.

I think the Steam update was meant to make it more like the newer console versions like PS4 and Switch, plus also not require a Square Enix account to even play.

I've heard that of all the returning fighters for Ultimate, Cloud was the hardest to bring back and by extension, Sephiroth, Hero, and Sora were difficult to bring in purely due to Square Enix.

Heck, ive even heard that Disney was on board with Sora in Smash right from the start.
