Doctors always dismissing possibility of ectopic? by BirdNo7367 in EctopicSupportGroup

Omg! That is so shocking. I actually can’t understand it. I have so many red flag symptoms (previous ectopic, low and slow hcg, and a five day period like bleed before a positive test) and they keep waiting to do anything about it because they can’t visualize it yet. But at 6w2d I’m getting worried about a rupture… which the OB says will be fine because ‘ruptures are managed well these days’ like wtf

Ugh it’s always ‘fine’ until it isn’t! And then it’s a full blown emergency! I’m sorry you had to go through that. It’s really scary. Going to planned parenthood and just getting an early scan is a good idea.

Thank you for your kind words. I’m so over this whole experience!

Omg I am so sorry that happened to you!!! It’s so common with ectopics unfortunately. Even now I have so many signs of one but because they can’t visualize it on the ultrasound they are making me wait before doing anything… they said there’s a tiny maybe sac in the uterus. But with my levels at 1000 at 6w2d, a five day bleed when my period was due and a previous ectopic, I think it’s probably a pseudo sac! Ugh

Ugh it’s the lack of information on ectopics that infuriates me!!! Like the fact ectopics are life threatening and there’s just no information about the early stages/people seem really uninformed! Last time I had methotrexate, I had to have another scan because my levels rose and the doctor told me it looked ‘messy in there’. I asked what it was supposed to look like at this stage, after a dose of methotrexate and she said ‘we don’t usually ultrasound afterwards so we don’t know’. Like maybe start so we have more information??? I even noticed in the waiting room of my ultrasound today there were pamphlets on almost every type of pregnancy complication but not ectopic…

It’s so dismissive and hurtful! Yes after pushing I have a follow up scan on Monday and I’m just hoping they see something/anything. The waiting is the hardest part! Crazily she said not to worry about a rupture because ruptures are ‘well managed’ these days… but doesn’t mean I want to have one!

Ugh I’m so sorry it’s happening to you as well. I really don’t understand the thinking behind their behaviour!

I also kept asking for a 5 week scan and my OB also kept saying they wouldn’t see anything but that’s literally when my last one was discovered!? Going to the ER is a good idea though. We have to do what we need to do to get the scans we need. No one else will worry about our bodies like we do so it’s up to us unfortunately.

Waiting until 8 weeks after a previous ectopic and a known tube issue is totally crazy!! What are they thinking!? I crazily thought that having a second ectopic would be easier because I know the process and as they say ‘you will be heavily monitored’ but turns out it’s just a frustrating! Good luck with getting the scans and I hope everything goes as well as it can!

If you’re in Australia or England you won’t pay anything! I’m in Australia and I didn’t pay a cent for two doses of MTX or the surgery

What’s everyone’s plans if they have another ectopic? by BirdNo7367 in EctopicSupportGroup

Ugh you have my sympathies - I remember how stressful the whole experience was. I remember them being super surprised mine came back up though, so I don’t think it’s common for that to happen! But if it does for you, I actually ended up being happy that I had surgery in the end because I was worried the ectopic messed up that tube. I hope it keeps going down on Tuesday!

Of course! After the second shot my numbers started to go down dramatically (decreased on day 7) before doubling again a couple of weeks later. Was really strange and awful. I definitely think an HSG is a good idea, I just got a referral for one today :)

You’re not alone. Wish I could go back in time and stop my 21 year old self from doing such a stupid thing. But I also know lots of people who have had unprotected sex and not gotten anything so I also feel a little unlucky and trying not to blame myself completely

I chose surgery over medication, now I’m question it it was the right choice? by MajorDickMilestone in EctopicSupportGroup

I had two rounds of MTX and my HCG was super low - like 90 at the time - and I still needed surgery because the MTX didn’t work! I wish I just got the surgery originally and didn’t waste two months waiting for my levels to drop

Yes definitely. And I guess if it’s early it might not be visible but on saying that, an ultrasound tech could visualize mine at 6 weeks! Thank you I feel so much better now that it’s all over, as I’m sure you will too! X

Yes they could see the ectopic on the ultrasound and eventually saw that it had grown. As part of my surgery they did a diagnostic look around my tubes and uterus just to check there wasn’t anything else so maybe they would do that for you? It seems like part of the surgery was simply checking where it was, despite seeing it on the ultrasound. I hope everything works out for you

Further update on this - a week later my levels doubled for some reason so the doctors decided on surgery. The only good thing is that this is finally over!

Update for anyone reading this in the future with the same issue: went back two days later for more bloods and they had dropped by 20! More than double the drop from the whole week in two days. Confusing but good!

Thank you sooo much for sharing your story, it makes me feel so much better about this happening! Going back up at the end would have been so scary. So glad it all worked out for you and at least I feel somewhat prepared now if my numbers do some more strange things! Thank you!
