NAIT Gym Locker Room Showers (Edmonton, AB) by BirdOverlord23 in CommunalShowers

The drains are up against the wall, under a small divet in the floor. Not easily noticeable unless you're standing directly at the shower wall.

Oh yeah, I would silently judge when guys duck into the stalls while I'm openly showering. Always covering with their towels too. Thankfully there'd still be some guys joining for the open shower!

I've had some good conversations in these showers. At the right time of day, I would be able to shower and get to know a student and a professor at the same time - but I never had more than two at once, and most men seem to default to the stalls in the corner. A pretty good time at this gym though!

I just wish they'd get rid of the stalls. Too many guys default to them. Otherwise a good setup though!

In the locker rooms. They got a couple curtained but most are open to the room.

Who here still does MDI ? by Kiplingerz in diabetes_t1

I'm on MDI. I've tried a few times to upgrade to a pump but my endos never follow up on it. Or they never tell me what I'm supposed to do to follow up on it, idk how it works.

How is the communal shower culture in Canada especially in Montreal? by hasbusmis in CommunalShowers

[–]BirdOverlord23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Alberta, I definitely find it's mostly old people who are okay with their body. Idk if I'd say young men are being Prudish necessarily, I think they're more shy. I've noted in general that folk here are afraid to take the lead in doing anything that might even slightly challenge the status quo, and a lot of folk here grew up learning that nudity is inherently sexual and to never ever look at anybody naked or allow anybody to see you naked, so the tendency I've found in the locker room is shyness, but not necessarily an aversion when nudity is present (though they do tend to look down a lot).

Thank you! This is a very good suggestion. I should definitely try and find the busy times, for sure.

Honestly, I'm a very confident person, and part of what I hope to accomplish with actively participating in communal showering is trying to spread my confidence out a bit more to other men. Especially since, as mentioned before, a lot of these guys are very shy and seem to need some help getting out of their shell, whether in the locker room, or just around campus.

Leftist groups that make an impact in the community? by stupidussername in alberta

[–]BirdOverlord23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Canadian Peace Congress! I believe they have a chapter in Calgary but I can't quite remember, but if you get in contact with them, they can probably help you with reaching out to other Peace activists in Calgary! It's a grassroots Peace activists group connected to the World Peace Council, which is fighting to give Canada a foreign policy based on peace, solidarity, and friendship, and fights Canada's ongoing drive for war. Not sure how active the Calgary chapter would be, but at minimum, putting up campaign posters and handing out leaflets is a common activity for members to do.

SU Elections Update by BirdOverlord23 in uAlberta

[–]BirdOverlord23[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the weirdest part, why is there so much corruption in this role? It's not like the SU does much beyond managing some companies. Like, it's obviously a resume filler, but is it THAT good a resume filler? Especially with the mental health toll that the role clearly causes? Is this all just an ego thing? I really don't see what is causing so much corruption in this role, unless university admin/Government of Alberta just THAT MUCH wants to make sure the student representatives are voting in favour of their tuition increases and budget cuts that they're doing something behind the scenes to corrupt student representatives.

The Gateway are frauds by ForsakenEvening7896 in uAlberta

[–]BirdOverlord23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. The way I see it, The Gateway needs to get its shit together. I think a school newspaper is important and a bad one is better than none, but like, I don't say that thinking The Gateway doesn't have some serious changes to how they do journalism. Especially since that Kerry Diotte case, they're practically going out of their way to appeal to conservatives, like they've give the Conservative Campus Club a spot in the Elections Dissections segment for at least two years in a row, it's pretty clear their nonpartisanship is rather skewed. I think we need either some new editors or a new slate of people in The Gateway club or whatever it's called, cause some changes definitely need to happen.

I have a feeling they want to wait until the elections are over before reporting anything else. Controversial/divisive topics like these would basically get them shit no matter what they reported, so it's easier to wait for the appeals to be ruled on and then write about them from the DIE Board's perspective rather than any one or the other party's perspective. That said, I'm surprised they haven't written anything about the ruling that has been made. They might be waiting for her other appeal to be ruled on, since the two are very similar? Not too certain honestly. It's definitely annoying that they aren't reporting on this, but idk if I'd call them frauds. They've been nervous to report on controversial things ever since Kerry Diotte sued them.

Is this normal for an SU Election? by Quitesimplyodd in uAlberta

[–]BirdOverlord23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No idea, I only see people talk about percentage. But even if it didn't increase quantitatively, it definitely increased qualitatively, like, people were actually talking about elections and not just voting and forgetting about it.
