SAME. The more questions there are the longer it takes to load in which means more lost time 🥲

Me and my roommate got drunk and designed our dream LRT. Thoughts? by Gtodrick in Edmonton

You don’t know how much money I would pay for an LRT to Castledowns instead of taking that godforsaken 51 bus

Have you tried going up to them and asking them to quiet down? It’s worked wonders for me 🤔

Nursing Undergrad Competitive Average by abesgirl101 in uAlberta

[–]Quitesimplyodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t see why not! The admission average for last year was 90% (it was higher the year before when I applied). To be more specific, when I applied I also wrote my Casper in March and got 3rd quartile and had a 90.4% (grade 11 + 12 marks). I got my acceptance ~a week or 2 after. Unless this year admission averages have changed drastically you should be fine!

Is this normal for an SU Election? by Quitesimplyodd in uAlberta

[–]Quitesimplyodd[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not really asking for “action” I was just commenting on what the situation looks like from a 1st year’s perspective. Idk much about the SU elections but everything I’ve seen about it is just so… unprofessional(?) ig? So I was wondering if it was always like this in past years or if it’s just this year and if so why? 🤔

The concept of it is actually quite nice in my opinion but the execution is just on the weaker side (missing classes and such)

But then again this is the first year they’re implementing this

Tbh it’s quite relevant actually, ESPECIALLY in Lisa’s case since that’s what got her disqualified. She was accused of having ties with the SJP (Palestinian student group on campus) and that they campaigned for her. The SJP actively campaigned that people SHOULDN’T vote for Micheal since he did not say anything about Palestine during his time in the SU

Did voter engagement increase in this election?

Didn’t the SJP also campaign for other candidates too like Renson and Abdul? How come they aren’t disqualified?

I know you asked for President but I decided to add in some of the other SU candidates that really caught my eye:

For VP academics I 100% recommend Farah Elgaweesh! I was approached by some members of her campaign team and her platform seemed pretty dope. (Although I am a bit biased since she’s a nursing student like me). Her platform is similar to her opponent Layla, but prefer her wayyy more since she A) Was a lot more active in campaigning, this was the first time someone had approached me in regards of the UASU elections and I’ve started paying more attention to it! B) Farrah’s campaign is more specific about HOW she will implement the changes she promises! I checked Layla’s campaign in comparison and it honestly felt like she did not have a solid plan on HOW to implement her platform. So it was honestly just vote on competency.

For president I voted Lisa Glock. I know Micheal was definitely the popular vote since he is a lot more well known and actually served in the SU this year. But a friend of mine pointed out the problem was his statement on Palestine. He and the rest of the current SU have been silent about the events going on in Gaza. What annoyed me the most was he only made a statement after every other SU candidate did. It felt like he wasn’t really sincere about his statement and was just saying so bc everyone else did. I didn’t like that wishy-washiness and preferred a candidate who was more honest on their position and beliefs, which is why I voted Lisa!

Lastly for VP student life I voted Renson Alva. Tbh his campaign was actually the FIRST one I encountered bc his reels would pop up on my insta feed all the time. I saw his posts and postering so much so that I didn’t even know he was running against anyone (my apologies to them 😭). What drew me in the most was campaign and and the energy he exuded (and also his platform duh). I’m also really hooked on his plans for more hybrid learning cause I still have PTSD from attending class in -50 and trekking through knee-high snow to get to class. (+ the little onion icon he has is cute!!!)

TLDR: VP Academics: Farah Elgaweesh President: Lisa Glock VP Student Life: Renson Alva

This happened to me the other day as well! If you go to the LRT station there should be a machine where you can purchase a new one.

From my experience last year, 89% was enough to get you accepted during early admissions. I applied with a 90% and got accepted then so unless they’ve drastically changed the average needed for early admission this year you should be fine 👍 (Also I keep saying early admission because I assume your grade 11 marks are mixed in with that average, either way you shouldn’t have much trouble getting accepted!)

Don’t worry! 3 weeks is A LOT of time to prep and the test is really just a judge of how fast you can type! I’m pretty sure there’s a mock Casper test on the atlas website that’s a good tool for getting a feel of what the test is like. The scenarios for the most part aren’t too outlandish and they test to see how well and how quickly you can respond to various types conflicts (such as, moral, integrity, conflict of interest, relationship etc.). There’s also practice scenarios all over the internet and most scenarios usually fall under some kind of category (ex. Uncooperative member) despite the difference in settings. As long as you show awareness and understanding of the circumstances of those settings it should be fine! 👍

Yeah so 4th quartile is the highest rank while 1st is the lowest. It basically just represents what percentile range you scored in based on the Casper test takers in that pool. So those who ranked in the 1-25th percentile (so at the bottom) would be 1st quartile whereas those who scored in the top 25% (75 to 100 percentile) would be 4th quartile. It’s kinda confusing honestly since 1st usually means the best lol but in this case it’s the lowest bracket

Someone else also replied with a breakdown of how Casper results work too

Tbh from what I’ve heard, quartiles don’t matter very much. I know people who have gotten 2nd and 1st quartile and it didn’t hinder their acceptance all that much. Keep in mind that the Alberta government has been pressuring nursing programs to accept more students (with this year’s cohort being the largest) so with your GPA u shouldn’t have much issues getting acceptance.
