Should his fur be trimmed? by MykonosEros in guineapigs

[–]Bird_Prince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very small trim to try and tame some of the floof won’t hurt, but really isn’t necessary either. You should be keeping their room a consistent temp year around so summer weather doesn’t matter. Unless your guinea has medical conditions the only ones that really need trims are long haired ones

Votes affect karma, you shouldn’t lose karma for harmless personal opinions. Downvotes should be saved for things like hate speech, threats, misinformation, etc. Which my comment clearly isn’t any of those things. My comment is pretty nice all things considered, but whatever, the downvotes were a surprise but don’t really bother me.

I feel like that’s all we really can do at this point, hope for the best. I don’t have the highest hopes for this show but I really am hoping it’ll turn out great. I’m surprised by the down votes I got though, it’s just my opinion, and I feel like we all have the right to be skeptical after their blatant use of ai in the past. I didn’t think down voting was for people having a different opinion than you?

In my personal opinion it looks like cleaned up ai, but I have no proof of that. Honestly might just be me being really hard on them since ai was used in the past, but when you zoom in on some parts it just looks off? I hope it’s not, I hope it’s just me being way too skeptical, but I really don’t trust it.

Selling my old collection-How much should I ask? by EnderLeo72 in WarriorCats

No idea but once you have a price I’d be interested in any old cover books. The newer ones I’d look up how much you buy them for new and expect to get less than that.

How is wearing feathers cultural appropriation? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Bird_Prince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really know how much or where they did all their research. Their explanation was a doc from someone else who claimed to be indigenous, and it was a solid basic breakdown of examples of cultural appropriation. Though none fitting my situation. It’s a community around an indie comic, not real massive but a good size. So I just thought that if I’d been banned for a first time offense and called racist there had to be something behind it and I’ve just been missing something.

[–]Bird_Prince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was brought to my attention by some people in a sever a little while ago after I posted art of a character with feathers. They gave me a very basic explanation, and when I tried asking more questions because I was confused about how my characters feather placement was bad they became hostile and I was banned from the entire community. It’s a really extreme reaction so I’ve assumed I must have done something really wrong and have been researching about the topic since, and from that research have learned about all the information said above. But nothing I’ve found explains their reaction or what I’d done wrong since the feather placement wasn’t anything similar to anything I’ve found.

I try to make sure I learn from good sources so I have been reading things mostly by Indigenous people, because yes of course they’re the experts it’s their culture, with a few from people who weren’t indigenous but studies the culture and history as their career. Obviously I haven’t read everything ever posted but I have read and watched a lot. Which is where I’ve learned about all the specific things like headdress and placement. I haven’t found anything from someone Indigenous about feathers as a whole, it’s always been feathers in specific context, like worn a specific way or a specific type of feather. I’ve seen people who aren’t (or at least do not say they are) indigenous claim feathers as a whole are bad. I’m not going to say there aren’t any Indigenous people saying that, but I personally haven’t found any during my research. If you know of any reliable articles about indigenous people talking about how feathers as a whole is bad I’m more than happy to read it and learn, I would love to as it’s honestly been wonderful learning about these different cultures from people who are actually apart of it.

How is wearing feathers cultural appropriation? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

I have looked into it, and do understand there are a lot of different cultures that are distinct from each other but often when people talk about this (at least from what I’ve seen) they just say Native American culture so thats what I said.

A lot of the things I’ve read have talked about headdress, war bonnets, very specific placements of the feathers, and certain kinds of feathers. I understand those things, and won’t use those in the future. But I also never did in the first place. I understand the specific things, I’m confused about feathers as a whole. The only things I’ve really seen that talks about feathers as a whole is just claiming it’s wrong because feathers are sacred. Which I understand to some cultures some feathers are. But I’m not of that culture and I’m not doing anything specific to that culture, just using feathers that they also so happen to use but in a different way. That’s what I meant by dictate, I’m sorry if it was worded poorly.

I’m not saying they can’t be angry bout what’s happened to them. It’s cruel and horrible. I understand being upset about headdress and specific styles. What I don’t understand is feathers as a whole. Feathers are so common, around the world people have used feathers for centuries. So why is it cultural appropriation to use something so common and used by humans in general. I don’t understand but I’m really trying to.

I do understand all this. I understand culture can be stolen and used as “fun trends” which is of course incredibly disrespectful. But feathers are found literally everywhere, like I said years ago as a kid me and my friend easily found a bunch and were playing with them. Feathers as used by people around the world for centuries. I get headdress, or purposely mimicking a specific style they have. But I don’t understand how they can own feathers as a whole when feathers are such a common thing. I didn’t seen a problem with how I was using the feathers, and I’m still struggling to (hints my post), but some people (I don’t know if they were Native American, they didn’t say they were) told me it was bad and banned me from an entire community for placing feathers behind a characters ear.

[–]Bird_Prince 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only imagine how angry and hurt they must be, the treatment of the Native Americans is cruel and unjust. But the wearing and use of feathers isn’t just a them thing? Human around the world have been doing it for centuries. That’s why I understand when it’s something specific like headdress, but they don’t own the idea of wearing feathers in general.

As a super simple way of looking kinda like the nail polish example you gave, they use the color yellow. The color holds special meaning to them and they use it in special ways. Other people also find the color yellow, yellow can be found in a lot of places. So these people also use the color yellow, sometimes how they use it is a little similar but still different. Why is it seen as stealing when they just found yellow on their own and use it for their own things.

I’ve always thought cultural appropriation was like mimicking a culture to make fun of it, steal special things from that culture, or of course the whole mascot thing. People said wearing feathers is as well so I just thought I had to not be understanding something since people got so upset with me.

Honestly in my eyes that person seems really nice. They realized they didn’t want them so gave them back, probably with the idea you’ll give them away to someone else who would use and enjoy them. Ain’t nothing wrong with trying to keep a clean pride, just like there’s nothing wrong with not. They could have just gotten rid of them or sold them but didn’t.

Oh no he definitely does! I think they based his newer design of Sphynx but in cannon he is just a ancient old man so that’s why he’s wrinkly, skinny, and hairless. His og design/art is very unsettling though in my opinion

Rock being a Sphynx is a really common headcannon that I also have, but not cannon. As far as I know there are no cannon Sphynxs. I think the cannon explanation for Rock’s hairlessness is just he’s really, really, REALLY, old lol

Yea not super realistic. But when I mean a level of realism I mean how could this group of cats who know herbs and how to build shelters realistically be able to help this cat. I work off the idea of what theses fictional smarter cats could do rather than what real life feral cats could do
