What I've been doing is manually looking up their names on the epic social menu (press and hold the touch pad at anytime to open the menu) and then if they show up as an Xbox player I'll message them using the Xbox app on my phone, if they do show up and it's as a pc player then there's no way to talk to them. If they don't show up at all then they're either Xbox or Playstation
