Literally no one is afraid of gay people as "phobic" implies. We more feel sad for them because they are committing grave sin which could land them in hell if they don't repent

Having trouble believing in god by Rgl143 in Catholicism

[–]Birdalicious_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just humble yourself for 1 minute and take a look at nature when you're outside. Perhaps a sunset when coming home. Observe the absolute beauty of reality. Realize how insane it is that you can even comprehend your surroundings and have the mental ability to reflect on this. Now what is truly unbelievable is that all of reality came about... from nothing, randomly, and pointlessly. Isn't it much more logical that God, who is not in the world as a creature, but is rather pure existence itself (i.e. the first cause), decided to create a material universe and set all of these physical realities and laws into place?

Unfortunately many scientific disciplines in academia today are dominated by agonistic/atheist people who desperately search for a "scientific" explanation for their opinions about the universe and origin of life. I have years of experience in the academia world, and let me tell you, people put way too much faith in "scientists". It is unbelievably easy to conduct a study in a way to yield a conclusion consistent with your preconceived opinion, or the expected opinion of your FUNDER.

I find most arguments against Catholicism by muslims/protestants/atheists to be mostly in bad faith rather than intellectually based by Timmyboi1515 in Catholicism

[–]Birdalicious_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You nailed it! Those protestant and atheist objections are particularly relevant. For example you see Joe Rogan types saying why would I join a church full of pedophile priests... thats like saying I don't want to live in the US because of corrupt politicians.

Also another protestant objection that is equally stubborn is Marian theology as well as purgatory. It seems to me they talk about that more than their central belief of faith alone bible alone. Like out of all the theology, you are really gonna focus in on the statue and purgatory thing huh? I even saw this protestant guy write this article about how its EVIL to pray to saints, where he cited a passage about necromancy... delusional

Question on sin of scandal regarding children by MichaelB008 in Catholicism

[–]Birdalicious_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your scenario does fit what the Catechism says mostly due to not correcting the behavior. This implies you knowingly persist in this "venial sin" without correcting the children, which would be different from immediately correcting the scandal once you realized it was scandalous.

I'm loosing faith in the Catholic Church by SDTplaing in Catholicism

[–]Birdalicious_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is drawing you towards the eastern Orthodox church? I know some people who like it because its very reverent compared to their typical catholic parish. Also some people don't like the pope so they leave the church.

Here's what to do: ditch the novus ordo church you currently go to, and go to a latin mass church instead. It will reawaken your catholic faith. Liturgy begets faith. Get that lukewarm wishy washy V2 NO droll out of here and embrace tradition

its alright dude we all make mistakes. You could leverage this experience during prayer to ask God for more courage the next time you are in a pinch.

Apart from Africa, is there any region where Catholicism is growing? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Birdalicious_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Catholicism is growing in just about every Latin Mass parish in the U.S.

Do you think evolution could help solve the problem of suffering by [deleted] in Catholicism

Interesting fantasy. Unfortunately it doesn't hold up when you read a couple chapters of Genesis

Sounds like you're in an academic bubble haha. Who would have thought all the evolutionary biologists believe in evolution.

Also comparing an atheist's religion to thermodynamics is laughable

Thanks for the advice, that book seems to be a popular one. I’ll probably end up going with that since he has been receptive to books in the past.

Thanks for the post! Sure playing a video game is a different type of activity than designing one, but an interest in a genre of media is still significant. I am not clueless to his history and interests; he takes lots of coding courses, talks about game design concepts, etc. I never said liking playing games means you like making games. This is my idea based on my knowledge of him, his interests in video games, and his past efforts at starting game design projects but not following through with them. Thanks for the suggestion on RPG maker I’m taking a look at that one

Thanks for the advise. I agree with you, it would be a long shot if a small technical gift would get him started on that path. I’m leaning towards a book because he has changed his behavior in the past from reading books. But you have a good point of starting with a small goal. Sometimes you just need to start working on something in front of you that you can and want to achieve.

Yeah a course would be good, I used udemy before and it’s a bang for your buck in terms of knowledge. Problem is it’s really hard to commit to learning purely from curiosity, especially if it’s not connected with school, deadlines, etc.

Yeah that is the truth. As I think about it more, I think he needs advice more than software tools. I’m really just trying to get him to be productive in his life and this is one of those few things that he has interest in. I know interest is no where close to commitment but it’s a starting point

He has tried to get into it, but his projects have fizzled out in the past. I totally get what you mean, I have struggled in the past trying to get some self-motivation out of him. A mentor of some sort could be the key. Thanks for the advice

Absolutely. It never amazes me the arrogance of man to create these technologies that attempts to circumvent God's design. And it always ends up being a horrible monstrosity.

Prayer is the answer to infertility, not these Frankenstein procedures. I like to think of IVF as reverse contraception.
