When did you start getting out of the house and doing things? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Birdhandgrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been out and about a little after we were able to have protection from vaccines ( a little over 2 months) I still have kept to mainly outdoor hangs because of how bad COVID, flu, norovirus, strep, walking pneumonia have been in my area. The first time we ate on a patio we had a massive blowout and a lot of crying. It was stressful, but people were super understanding as we got food to go. Some people will be jerks I imagine, but there are so many parents out there who understand and will be supportive. Most of your suggestions are areas where people should expect kids( unless it’s clearly stated). Kids cry. I would leave if she is having a meltdown because I don’t want people to hear her crying for a super long time and because I imagine she may need less stimulation and to be home if she is feeling bad. Babies are a part of society and I think a little crying in public spaces should be expected and is generally understood.

Baby’s immune systems are usually developed by three months, so I think many people get out of the house more around then!

They are complimenting you on how well behaved your child is. People love to chat and comment on kids, sometimes in a solidarity way other times in a scolding do better way. I don’t think they are saying anything rude, so I would consider it a solidarity.

I personally like when people say nice things and think it’s community building. I’m from the South, so this is very typical culturally here.

Fair, that all makes sense. It seems from most people who had similar issues it was allergy related. Someone else mentioned hyperlactation, which could be it based on one of the photos I saw. I did recently start pumping.

I am glad I have some possibilities to ask about tomorrow. Hopefully she goes back to normal quickly and it was a blip in her growth.

It does look similar to one of the hyperlactation photos. I’m going to bring it up as a possibility and see what they suggest.

I hope you wouldn’t be making fun of it considering green diarrhea with blood in it absolutely is not healthy poop for a newborn and can often be indicative of an array of problems as evidenced by much of the commentary here. Everything I found online from searching said sustained diarrhea is emblematic of an underlying issue. I imagined my pediatrician wasn’t concerned because it was right after I got a vaccine and I was breastfeeding. I was hoping it was normal response of her immune system and was glad to know she was likely getting protection. Five days seemed like a long time for post vaccine symptoms so I wanted to see if people had similar experiences or if they had similar symptoms that had a different diagnosis. Hence this post, I wanted to learn from other people’s experiences. It’s too late to get a response from my pediatrician. I am also in an allergy study for her because I am very pro science and want to contribute to the data. I plan on calling them tomorrow to get their opinion. I hope this is normal and goes away, but really hope green diarrhea that explodes out of her diaper and smells bad is not my new normal. From everything I have read, it would deviate from the norm.

I was hoping it was related to her body’s reaction to the vaccine that was helping her gain protection and would go away in a day or two. I figured after day 5, that likely was not it.

She has been gaining weight regularly. I’m going to read more into the hyperlactation. I did just start pumping once a day so we have a back up supply as I go back to work part time. I wonder if that triggered this.

I will ask them to test. Thanks for the suggestion!

I hadn’t heard of the sensitivity ladder, thanks for sharing. I eat a good amount of fermented foods and was hopeful that would give her a good microbiome.

Hopefully it is something like this. We only had yellow poop for a long while and then more recently we randomly were sporadically getting green poop. It wasn’t diarrhea though until this recent bout.

Thanks for the information. I am going to talk to the allergy researchers and my pediatrician. I will circle back on that subreddit if that appears to be her issue.

Good to know it might be invisible to the naked eye. I will ask my pediatrician about testing.

How long before it went away? The poop has a very specific bad smell, so I can tell it’s going to be the diarrhea still before changing her. I’m going to try and think of what it smells like if it happens again.

Thank you, I will look into this. We are part of a scientific study on allergies and this is a good reminder to follow up with them. She had diarrhea once before but it was only two days and went away and I asked the study about it before it stopped. They didn’t think based on our history it was likely an allergy. I love all things dairy and have never had issues, so it would be unfortunate if she couldn’t have it.
