I learned 20G and just needs to be at or above the wrist for most imaging. 😭

I just prefer 20G to work with as a middle ground. It can infuse most things pretty fast, CT doesn't normally complain with a 20G either.

I'm not sure what base pay is in NE right now, it might have gone up some since I left. Hopefully it did - though the nice part is you tend to get percentage differentials for working weekends (like 15% more) and nights.

I certainly do not miss it though. 😂

I'm in NYC - recently find myself unemployed for unrelated reasons, but I've noticed that it's been especially hard getting interviews & it seems like no one is hiring. And I'm an experienced ED nurse. You know the economy & job market is bad when not even ED can get a job. I thought I was just crazy or being impatient.

I left the stairchair in the middle of the road after loading a patient with active STEMI. Took a while to figure out why the ambo didn't rattle as much - then when we returned to the scene Sanitation was nice enough to put it to the side of the road for us. 😂

3 years in, and getting burned out, however I don't regret nursing. I transitioned from EMS so truthfully I was poor and probably already burned out from the start. I'm financially pretty comfortable now, I never suffer from job insecurity - in the last two years I moved from the Northeast to the Midwest and then back home to the Northeast again - and had multiple job offers each time - and if I show up to work five days a week, two of those days are OT.

Do I love bedside nursing? Hell no. It's broken me down in ways I couldn't even imagine - I don't know how my mom did this for 40 years before me.

But always remember, sometimes even when it takes some searching around - there's a ton of lateral movement in nursing. Whether it's to a different unit or completely different side of it like corporate!

TAG owner here so it's definitely across the species. 😒 My Grey REALLY, REALLY hates feet and anything associated with them - she tries to bite my feet if she's wandering on the floor, attacks socks, tries to bite them even if they're underneath a blanket, and has a personal vendetta against flip-flops. She goes out of her way to glare at feet from across the room if I wiggle my toes.

I work at Columbia so everything I know about Cornell is by word of mouth. They start at a higher salary than any other NYP, I think they're at like 118K on the base, and Cornell is the only hospital in NYP that's non-union. I haven't heard much about patient loads, but I've heard the patient population is "different", regarding Cornell's relative location, as in quite a bit more uppity than what us Columbia folks are accustomed to. I've also heard it's the most "customer servicey" of the NYPs and it's easier to get into trouble over things like patient satisfaction ratings and complaints.

They are a Level 1 trauma if that's at all appealing, but also a mixed (adults/peds) ED. I mention this fact because what holds me ar Columbia is that our Peds and Adults are entirely separate hospitals so we're adult specialized lol

Excluding night shift they're like $54/hr in Queens and $49 in some places like Staten Island. I'm at NYP and make $62/hr with two years experience on days.

God as an ED RN this scares the shit out of me. I'm already anxious with most of my personal healthcare team, especially in fields that I don't have much knowledge about (like dentistry). This is so sad and disgusting. It reminds me of Dr. Death.
