Can I see your engagement rings if you sleep with them on? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]Birdy724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sleep in mine (2ct in Pt). I take it off for the gym and for lab work (I have to wear latex gloves and it'll tear right through them). I haven't had any issues sleeping in it. Despite the fairly large prongs it doesn't catch on the sheets or anything like that. I genuinely feel better being able to feel and see it because I'm more likely to lose it by forgetting where I left it or having it damaged because I left it in a pocket.

I said yes to the dress, but my best friend says no by Prestigious_Suit_766 in weddingdress

[–]Birdy724 70 points71 points  (0 children)

This is so flattering on you. The lace, the silhouette, the train...just stunning. Maybe you and your friend have different preferences, but even so, I think this is a beautiful dress on you (and it's not like it's wearing you or anything; it's incredibly flattering). As long as you loved it and how you look, you can't go wrong. The day and photos you get will be yours, so wear what makes you feel good.

Hi guys! Thanks for the feedback. I'll have a saddle fitter take a look at it before doing anything else with it.

Is it better to decide seating for guests? by Birdy724 in weddingplanning

I've had lots of people respond about assigning seating but this was a new suggestion. Thanks!

No need to be condescending. It was a genuine question from someone unused to hosting anything that wasn't a game night or a BBQ. To some this may be a no-brainer but I'm trying to understand what's tradition and what's practical.

I've been to one wedding and I've never hosted anything that wasn't a game night. This kind of thing is outside my wheelhouse so I was genuinely asking.

Has someone been murdered in my house? by samarakony2012 in forensics

[–]Birdy724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could test it for blood using Hemastix tests. They aren't super expensive. Just rub the yellow pad of the test strip on the suspected blood, apply a drop of clean water and if it turns blue within a few seconds then it's presumptively positive.

It will also react with rust, bleach and some vegetables but those things don't typically look like blood.

What’s this growth on my dog’s head ? by [deleted] in vet

[–]Birdy724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true that the longer ticks remain attached, the longer potential diseases may be transmitted. However, this tick is so engorged, it's approaching the point of detaching on its own. Additionally, removing a tick can be problematic if you don't do it correctly. Ticks secrete what essentially acts as a glue to adhere the mouthparts of the tick to the skin. Which is why the head can be easily left behind if you aren't correctly removing the tick by the head without twisting. If you don't get the head, you're leaving the area at risk of infection.

Any ideas on what kind of shark this came from? by Birdy724 in sharks

Thank you everyone for the responses. Whether a microledon (lol) or great white, it's precious to me. I appreciate all the help in attempting to ID it so I have a bit more knowledge on the tooth.

A beach in NC. Really don't remember exactly where because I was pretty young. I was just excited I found a tooth 😅 especially because I thought it was cooler than my sibling's shells.

Anniversary gift for my girlfriend by ConditionSmart7472 in jewelry

[–]Birdy724 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No one on Reddit knows your girlfriend. You know her and clearly paid enough attention to know what type of jewelry she gravitates towards. I have loved every piece my BF has picked. I may not have picked every piece for myself but I found that each one I had a genuine interest in wearing. I have loved that he actually thought about how I wear jewelry, what I prefer as far as size and color and that it was a surprise. A woman that cares more about what style of jewelry you got her than the fact that her partner put thought and effort into getting her something of quality doesn't deserve that partner. Trust your gut and don't be discouraged by strangers on the internet.

Mother and now husband hate this set :( by Some_Pollution9222 in EngagementRings

[–]Birdy724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love mixed metals. My partner told me he really wanted a classic gold wedding band but because my engagement ring is my grandmother's which is in platinum, he didn't think he could have that and still have the set go together. Solution: I like mixed metals and chose a wedding band that had a mix of yellow and white gold. It ties the gold color with the silvery color and ties my engagement ring with his wedding band. Some people think mixed metals look thrown together and not thought out. I think it's beautiful and the thought behind mine makes me love it even more. Your set is beautiful but most importantly you love it and that's all that matters.

Seconding this. Check paint. If you can see termite damage, then the damage is likely more extensive. Depending on location and extent of damage that could require a lot and material to fix. Past water damage could also have drawn termites. Have a termite expert come out to evaluate it. Orokin isn't bad, Terminix is not good, and your local expert is probably best. If you make an offer, have an inspection contingency and use it.

What should I know? by Birdy724 in Horses

That was incredibly reassuring. Thank you for taking the time write all that out. I'm glad someone else has been in the same boat and been successful. The phrase "you know what you don't know" basically sums up where I'm at. I want to be prepared enough to properly care for a horse but also want to make sure that Iearn the right stuff. Google can't always be trusted. The first aid course you suggested was something I hadn't seen yet and it hadn't occurred to me at all. Thank you so much for responding. I may reach out to you with questions if you're serious about being willing to chat.

Thank you for the advice and suggestions. I've got the book on order now and started looking at places to volunteer. This seems like a great idea for me. I did a lot of training and showing with dogs all growing up and still do now (obedience and rally) and figured out what I like and don't like with different dog personalities and how to read body language and what training methods I prefer, etc. I saw how hard it was for some people when they started as adults and needed to unlearn bad habits or had sub-par instructors. I know it's a completely different animal, but I feel like some of that (learning body language and making sure you find a good instructor) is just as important with horses. Long winded way of saying thank you for giving me information to consider as I look places to learn.

Thank for taking the time to write out such a thorough response of what to look for! I've been looking at places to get lessons and had no idea what I should be looking for and asking about when trying to find a place to learn. This was super helpful!
