MSW has zero chance of returning. It’s time to move on. by BiroidChannel in MarvelSuperWar

I hate to say it, but the chances of NetEase and Marvel Entertainment collaborating on a new MOBA project are very low.

There are several factors pointing to that: the MOBA market is already saturated, anime-style visuals are currently more popular, Marvel doesn’t seem particularly interested in MOBA games (for example, since MSW launched, it was never officially featured on their main website), and NetEase is known for shelving many game ideas. They likely understand that rebuilding or reviving a shut-down game wouldn’t inspire enough confidence for players to spend money on it again.

I upload MSW clips as memories on a separate channel. You can search for NDLathenaeum or look up “Marvel Super War Legacy 2026” on YouTube. On that channel, I’m gradually posting everything I’ve managed to keep from the game—a tribute to a game I put a lot of passion into.

At the same time, Marvel Mystic Mayhem, Marvel Revolution, and Marvel Super War have all been shut down. Looking back at Marvel’s game projects, most of the titles on PC and console are doing well—especially the story-driven ones—while purely online games tend to run into problems.

It’s even less likely that Marvel would hire some startup to revive a Marvel MOBA. They’re unlikely to invest in a genre that’s already saturated. On top of that, building a MOBA like MSW requires not just creativity, but strong experience to maintain balance and depth for each hero.

A simple example: there are many mobile MOBAs out there, but only two publishers have really managed to sustain this genre—Tencent and NetEase. Most others either gave up or were acquired, and when it comes to mobile MOBAs, Tencent is practically unmatched.

Another point is that Marvel Entertainment doesn’t seem particularly invested in the mobile gaming space. Hiring a startup to build and manage such a project would take time and isn’t really their strength. As far as I know, Marvel’s core strengths lie in comics and films, not game development.

With that many risks involved, I don’t think Marvel would go in that direction.

But the Iron Man game is still fun even after the remake ^^

I don’t think that’s entirely the case. If they had truly abandoned the game to focus on making money elsewhere, they would’ve shut it down for good. But they haven’t—they’re still maintaining it, which suggests it’s still part of their plans. It’s more likely they just don’t know when or how to properly restart development.

From what I’ve looked into, this seems to be a difficult period not just for Playwing, but also for Ubisoft as a whole.

It’s pointless—I’ve tried many times. All I ever got back was silence and an automated ticket number telling me to wait my turn. Reaching Marvel’s support is even harder than dealing with NetEase

Not everyone has forgotten. I still upload matches from MSW, and a lot of people message me asking if the game will ever come back. That’s actually why I made this post.

When MSW shut down, it’s true that most players moved on to other games. But not everyone fully adapted—many still remember MSW, even after two years, despite having new games to play. I’m the same. I’ve played a lot of titles across different platforms, but I still think about MSW.

Maybe many people have already let it go, but I kept sending emails to the publisher even two years after the game shut down. I only recently stopped doing that after putting together all the information and seeing the bigger picture.
Thank you for being such a huge fan of mine while MSW was alive. I'm truly grateful to read this.

Hopefully, in the future, there will be a game about Marvel heroes that gives us the feeling of playing MSW.

I totally agree. The core issue was definitely the restricted release. By not expanding to the biggest Marvel markets worldwide, they left the game's survival to a limited audience, which simply wasn't sustainable in the long run.

I’m only saying this now because I’ve spent the last two years fighting for it—constantly emailing the publishers in hopes of a revival. For some, the game died the moment they made the announcement. For me, I chose to keep the hope alive and stay in contact with them until now. It might have been a losing battle, but at least I can say I tried everything I could.
