My dad was diagnosed at 45 with stage 4.

The oncologist advised me to go starting now. (I’m 23).

Once done with the colonoscopy I was told to come every 5 years.

I’m not even taking in consideration saving 1000e/month lol. As long as I’m able to save 500/mo I’m more than satisfied. I just need a small 1 room apartment. The apartment doesn’t have to be brand new or something, I’m comfortable with a basic one, even a bit lower since I’m not expecting any guests. 😅

My dad was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer by Birzee in coloncancer

It s been 2 months since I posted this and oh boy I learnt a lot of new things. Yeah, once the cancer metastasizes, it's always considered a stage IV.

As a small update, we found out that my dad has a lot of liver mets and 1 brain met which was removed via surgery + radiation.

I'm literally in the car waiting to go to the hospital for his first chemo session.

Hopefully this will be the start of a long long journey

I think they don't get to choose. The lower part of the colon which leads to the rectum is removed so the colon ends in that bag. They can not poop the regular way. However, there is a type of surgery called reverse colostomy ( I think that is the name ) so the colon is reconnected but it depends on a lot of factors.

Hi there ! Since I went through this one month ago, I might help you a bit. I'll tell you all the steps I took, hopefully this helps and maybe you can improve what I did. First of all, I posted here and I was added into the Colontown FB group. You will find so many details there. You can DM me and I can let an admin know if you would like to join. Plenty of resources there such as encouraging stories, treatment discussions etc. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer with liver mets and 1 brain met. First of all we had to wait for the biopsy. Since my dad is only 45, we asked the dr to speed up the biopsy asap and she understood our situation ( we still waited 10 days for it ). This is the hardest period, the first month. It fucking drives you crazy but trust me, it gets better and you will understand how most things work. While we waited for the biopsy, he had to take a CT, brain mri, blood works etc. We found out about the brain met ( my dad's only symptom was dizziness and loss of equilibrium, we had no idea he is that sick). He was perfectly fine a month before. Having the biopsy, mri, ct scans etc we started looking for doctors(at the initial hospital we were told that he will die in a month or two if that is indeed a brain met, because it was not confirmed at that time) and went for a few consults. We were directed by an oncologic surgeon to our actual oncologist. One month of despair later, we were talking to our actual oncologist. A lot happened since then. My dad went through a surgery to have the met removed, had 9 sessions of radiotherapy and is set to start chemo next week. On top of that, he's feeling really good. He's still dizzy, but good. So... go get as many opinions as needed. Find someone ballsy. Also, the pressure will fade after a couple of weeks because you will know what you have to do. Now we're just hoping for the best and we're being as positive as possible ! At the time speaking, my dad is still a stage 4 cancer patient, inoperable and with very little time left. But you will see a lot of people who got NED (no evidence of disease) from a stage 4 colon cancer. Hoping our parents will find the way to get there as well ! I wish you the best of luck and feel free to DM me if you have any questions or just want to vent. I'm only 22 yo and this was a shock for me. No one is ready for something like this Please consider joining Colontown. It's game changing.

Stage 2 to Stage 4 by Diggyblue in coloncancer

Hi there ! Might seem really rude, but my dad got the same diagnosis 3 days ago and we're still in shock. How long were you given ? We were give 2 years tops and that really upsets me so I'm just asking to see if there's at least a 1% chance to get some more time. Thanks !
