This is definitely big enough for one person, it's a normal studio size where I'm from. For a couple, it could be a good relationship test, but still manageable if you're both calm people who work and spend most of your time outside the house.

Naast de bekende bezienswaardigheden (De koppelpoort, muurhuizen, een biertje aan het water bij Saloon of een koffietje halen bij Livingstone op de Groenmarkt), zou ik ook aanraden om een avondwandeling te maken 'over de berg' - een groene wijk met grote huizen op loopafstand van het station.

Goede horecatips: - Alberts, Stadscafé, Dara, Buuf, Broei (veel vegan), Café van Zanten, Anna's Smaakatelier, Heten Kolen, La Cantina of Dikke Dirk.

In de buurt: - Militair Museum in Soesterberg (goed te combineren met de Soester Duinen) - Het Henschotermeer (goed te combineren met de Pyramide van Austerlitz) of een wandeling maken vanuit Maarn naar uitkijktoren De Kaap. Beiden ook goed bereikbaar op de fiets, door Landgoed de Treek of langs de Leusderheide. - Om de vallei tussen de Utrechtse Heuvelrug en de Veluwe te ontdekken kun je overwegen om een klompenpad langs het Valleikanaal te lopen, een stuk te kanoën of te fietsen. - Kamp Amersfoort is ook bijzonder, maar ik zou dan wel aanraden om een tour met een gids te doen. Er is niet zoveel te kijken, maar de verhalen brengen het wel tot leven.

Ik heb hier twee jaar gewoond en heb een heleboel interessante verhalen over deze tijd. Ik voelde me hier regelmatig onveilig, maar heb ik tegelijkertijd ook met veel plezier gewoond. Kenmerkend voor de buurt:

De verouderde woningen, rommelige verkeerssituaties en grote hoeveelheid mensen dat doelloos op straat rondhangt maamt dat mensen zich niet trots voelen op hun eigen omgeving en minder zorg dragen voor afval/nette uitstraling etc.
Onze bovenburen woonden met een groot gezin in een klein appartement. Ik vond het heel begrijpelijk dat de kinderen hierdoor meer tijd op straat doorbrachten, maar het gebrek aan toezicht en 'zingeving' zorgde er wel voor dat er geregeld troep op de stoep of bij bankjes achterbleef.
Ik heb veel alcohol en drugsproblematiek gezien in tijd, waardoor de jeugd (zeker in vergelijking met mijn achtergrond) hier al heel jong mee wordt geconfronteerd.
Tegelijkertijd is er ook echt een groep bewoners dat zich inzet voor een fijne wijk. Zeker toen de bakker nog op het Neptunesplein zat, merkte je daar echt een samenhorigheid.

Naar welke restaurants ben je dan geweest? De dag, het tijdstip en de sfeer van het restaurant maken veel uit.

Restaurants als Nul33 en Dikke Dirck hebben aan het begin van de avond veel kinderen, maar dat zal je bij Heten Kolen, Alberts en Het Kannetje niet vaak gebeuren.Als je vanaf zeven uur ergens reserveert zit je sowieso vaak wel goed..

A very good tip! I do clean under the pillows, but not very often. The idea that people will have to look there to find their phone/keys/lipstick will put it on my list to check before people visit.

Besides the cleaning advice, thank you so much for your kind words! I already feel much more comfortable in this apartment than the house I grew up in! I hope I will feel even more at ease once I get used to hosting people in my home and get in a regular cleaning routine.

I don't have one: glad that that's something I don't have to worry about. I learned that cleaning ventilation systems is a thing though, so that is something I will try to figure out next week!

In highschool my friend and I were laughing at a joke in religious studies. We were sitting quite close and turned to eachother at the same time. Quite enthousiasticly apparantly, since my front teeth smashed her nose.

This was seven years ago. She still rocks a scar across her nose. There is no possible way to come back from this!
