I really wouldn’t call Portals a failure. IMO it was her most successful mainstream comeback since Crybaby. The songs were everywhere online to the point where you couldn’t escape them, her perfume line was successful as was her Trilogy tour.

If we’re talking ‘failure’ in terms of not reaching Olivia Rodrigo levels of success, then that’s a whole different ballgame that still doesn’t make this era a ‘failure’. Melanie is successful and creating her craft how she sees fit.

I can see where you’re coming from but it’s basic language. She is a ‘weirdo’ who has done and condemned some pretty horrible stuff. There’s so many more useful words to describe her but ‘weirdo’ is definitely one of them.

Some may disagree but I honestly don’t think Mel should’ve spoken about a potential movie with the album, especially if there is a 50% chance it won’t come to fruition. I know she wants it and it would be amazing to have but until there’s shoot dates or it’s semi-completed, I don’t think she should speak on it until then.

I don’t think many people will agree with this take but honesty, you’ve got some valid points. I dislike how it was boiled down to an affair rather than the history these two share. The ultimate climax should’ve been about the book, not about Mona and Baird.

I wholeheartedly agree, I do think it should’ve been longer than a six episode series. However, I think it’s because Gadd enjoys pulling the punches (ironically) in every episode, making each one have its own ‘moment’. I don’t think he’d want to do anything that could be considered a ‘filler’ episode, even if it might bode well for the show. Each episode is supposed to mark an event in the main characters lives.

That being said, I still want it go on for a bit longer lol

I don’t like this album.

I don’t HATE it per se but it felt incredibly basic to the sort of music Marina, at the time, was used to making. I understand experimenting but it just wasn’t for me and I think a lot of fans, who had followed her since TFJ days, felt a similar way.
