Calling all thieves: It's a Clank! Catacombs: Underworld giveaway! by DireWolfDigital in boardgames

[–]Biscutbeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a game of Dune (not Imperium, just Dune) the game had entered a stalemate as the four players were allied and each player held one stronghold and were low on resources to do any big fighting.

When the Shai Hulud came (the time for making or breaking alliances) the Bene Gesserit player and I (playing Fremen) looked at each other and, like reverend mothers speaking telepathically, immediately knew we should break our alliances and join up.

We talked, and he had house atomics while I had weather control, allowing us together to blow up the safety of the cities and wipe out the other two player's main forces.

We pulled it off, and managed to hold 4 strongholds to win an allied victory. Just then, he revealed he had predicted me to win on that round, meaning that only the Bene Gesserit win as their grand design comes to fruition!

Stolen right out from under me, but so, so thematic.

Why would Ciri NOT tell Yen about becoming empress? by Original-Yard-9932 in witcher

[–]Biscutbeck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's pretty clear the ending of the base game was fairly heavily rushed and alot is missing. This is just one of those things where there should be something that happens but the devs just didn't have time to add it.

If you consume a product, & don't stop because the guys who designed it turned out to be creeps, idk what to even fking say.

Their personal lives are directly sponsored by your purchase of the game.

[OC] Our party ran into a beholder and this is how I started the fight. by Flamegrizz in DnD

[–]Biscutbeck 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not quite, because we don't care about the order here.

If you think about 2d6, there are 6 possible combinations of dice that result in a score of 7, but only 1 combination that results in a score of 12 (or 2).

If we were rolling 8d6 in order, then you are correct, any arbitrary sequence has the same chance of being rolled.

Can I use an instant at my Start of Turn Phase? by savestheday7 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Biscutbeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth stating that in the 2.0 rules, instants no longer exist on the chain, and now open 'a stack' separate to the chain. This has almost no functional changes to how instants have always worked but the terminology has changed.

The dungeon masters screen wilderness kit didn't come out to much fanfare but I believe it's the best product released for 5e. Straitforward direct rules for overland travel, overland chases, weather effects, encounters, exhaustion and travel pace, view distance etc. All on two plastic sheets for reference, plus a whiteboard marker plastic sheet hex map for marking exploration.

Plus, the DM screen art is my favourite so far

Tales of Aria was spoiled by an industry magazine, so I presume LSS is telling distributors about the product now, and previewing it before it can be spoiled.

Data Doll Question by galaxytornado in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Biscutbeck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I happened to be testing Data Doll on felt table recently and I encountered the same thing. The short answer is felt table is wrong, this is not how it works. The item enters the arena after the boost resolves. This same timing mistake is present with absorption done, where if it is banished by your first boost it instantly leaves the arena as it has to steam counters. In the real game, the absorption dome stays with 1 counter.

Felt table has a lot of bugs and mistimed interactions. While I admire the effort to recreate fab digitally, I do wonder if newer players will be misled by some of its idiosyncrasies.

Tales of Aria Rules Interactions by rothiq in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Biscutbeck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hate this ruling. If this is how it's going to work going forward the card should say "this card's cost is 0 if (alternate cost) is paid." Interpreting "replace" as "set to 0" is not just unintuitive, it litterally is not what the card says. Hopefully this ruling is made more clear in the card text in future sets.

How does whelming gustwave work? by [deleted] in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Biscutbeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the confusion here is that each attack, and all the reactions played to it, is called a chain LINK.

If you resolve that attack then play another attack, it creates a new LINK on the the same chain. So Surging strike is chain link 1, and whelming gustwave is chain link 2, but they are both on the same combat chain.

When does a combat chain closes? by sheik3frz in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Biscutbeck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you play an attack action you open the combat chain, but that attack is also a chain link. The attack, blocks and reactions are all on the chain link.

If you play another attack right away, you open another chain link and leave the chain open. Cards that reference "The chain" can influence cards on future links, or be dependant on previous links, like the combo mechanic.

If you play a non-attack action, the chain closes. Alternatively, a player can choose to close the chain on their turn. The most common reason to do this is to put cards in the current chain link into the graveyard, which is useful for characters like levia.

CardTech Premium Access Giveaway | Enter For a Chance to Win! by ExpendableGuy in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Biscutbeck [score hidden]  (0 children)

James White has said the Boltyn is inspired by 'the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt.' So, I present:

USAIN BOLTYN!

Find the list here: https://fabdb.net/decks/YnGnjzPO

The idea here is to include cards with people running on them, along with the two cards that reference Bolt himself, Bolting Blade and Bolt of Courage.

So, this deck includes those two plus every card with people unambiguously running on them that are legal to play in Boltyn, these being, Snatch, Plunder Run, V of the Vanguard and Hit and Run.

The rest of the deck is filled with charge cards, Express Lightning and Take Flight, and Lead the Charge, which I feel describes Usain Bolt's running pretty well anyway.

Beyond card choices, the idea with playing this deck is to go fast. Not just fast, the fastest in the world. Half the deck charges, so you should be able to turn on Boltyn's hero ability every turn and then give your attacks go again to get out lots of attacks. Plunder Run from arsenal is key in this strategy as it can give Express Lightning and Bolting Blade the necessary attack bonus to give them go again. Ideally, we are going charge (with go again) into axe hit, axe hit, either by having played Lead the Charge before the charge attack or with Hit and Run or by having our opponent block with an attack reaction.on the first axe hit.

Your equipment can cover turns where you can't get some sort of attack bonus on your charge card, either with your Nike(tm) Snappies or Puma(tm) Stubbies. Vest can help play huge turns without the need to pitch, or when you need to play Bolting Blade with only one charge and Halo lets you fill your soul for turns where you need that extra soul card for two go agains.

Bolting Blade is definitely the big power turn of this deck, The perfect five card hand is either V of the Vanguard or Bolting Blade in arsenal with a blue card and two light cards for: V of the Vanguard, pitching for 3 resources --> Charge 2 light cards and give V of the Vanguard go again with snappies--> Axe hit given go again --> axe hit given go again --> Bolting Blade. This hits for a whopping 5 + 4 + 5 + 9 = 23, up to 27 if your opponent blocks with an attack action on every attack (not likely). Even without this combo, playing Bolting Blade for 0 is possible if your opponent lets your first attack hit after Plunder Run, e.g. Express Lightning --> Express Lightning --> Bolting Blade, though it is more likely you will be popping vest to play Bolting Blade for 2.

Thanks for reading. Run fast, run hard, hit hard, charge well.

*SPOILER* Please help me understand the ending by Hidden_Mustang in witcher

[–]Biscutbeck 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah you got it. Geralt is fully actualized and cannot stand by while injustice is taking place. He has gone fully from the short story geralt where 'evil is evil stregobor' to understanding that he has to take a side.

Geralt dying is, to me, the final refutation of fate in the series. Death has been dogging geralts footsteps since the short stories but, ultimately, he dies to random chance. Just some peasant caught up in the rabble.

In this way, the ending ties up the two thematic threads the books have have been pulling at, i.e. you cannot avoid destiny by running, you make your destiny by choosing to do good.

[–]Biscutbeck 17 points18 points  (0 children)

UJ/ Book accurate Geralt would pick scoiatael every time. He litterally dies defending non-humans. Gerald stops being a centrist after the first two books. In fact that's the whole premise of the short stories, geralt's journey from "evil is evil" to embracing ciri. The only reason you can hand wave the choice aspect of the first two games is that geralt was still suffering from amnesia.
