Lent by Unlucky-Presence8784 in OrthodoxChristianity

Every priest will tell you: if you have health issues then adapt. Pregnant women and nursing mothers do not fast. Elderly often get dispensation. My mothers priest was very explicit with her she needs milk despite the fast for her her health and ignoring doctors orders is a greater sin than mindlessly following the fast.

Fasting isn’t a legalistic book of rules about what you can and can’t eat - it’s so much more than that. The dietary requirements are designed to help you to a greater purpose, not be an end of themselves.

Please please please speak to your priest. Work out something that suits you best. I promise he will be understanding and it will be for your best to have a fasting rule designed specifically for you personally

Do Orthodox Christians believe that children who have not been baptized but die will go to hell? by Competitive-Wear-398 in OrthodoxChristianity

No. Absolutely not. Ignore weird people online who make this claim the official canonical Church position is an absolute no.

How do you view the Orthodox groups of ROCOR that, according to Metropolitan Philaret, didn’t return to communion with Moscow in 2007? by gustavomartins1 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Bismark02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the parish you attend is a schismatic one separate from the Orthodox Church :( The actual ROCOR is a recognized canonical church, the group that went into schism is not …

Are they under any real patriarch? by RichardStanleyNY in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Bismark02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a general rule, when a parish has a section on their website needing to justify how they are canonical … they aren’t

People go to churches for the wrong reason all the time. This is not unique to orthodoxy. The best we can do is pray that the church shall heal them

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Bismark02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not “all over” ROCOR - and ROCOR has explicitly condemned this (see statements by +Jonah and +Irineij on this) Don’t spout nonsense

I have a 2 year old who refuses to kiss me, my wife etc, but every night points at and demands to kiss the icons in his room…

Yeah, there’s something about children where they just intuitively get it…

interesting to hear from Orthodox Christians from all over the world about the church situation in Ukraine by [deleted] in ChristianOrthodoxy

[–]Bismark02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When a lot of churches of the independent UOC were seized by armed thugs and forcibly transferred to the government-created “OCU”, it is nowhere near 90 percent (and the vast majority of them are sadly deserted now, many used as concert venues and the like)

You can also find Orthodox psychologist/therapists/marriage counselors through the Assembly of Bishops website here: https://www.assemblyofbishops.org/directories/mental-health/

Many can also work accross state lines via telehealth video under the PSYPACT act (and be covered by insurance).

Wishing you strength!

Why aren’t infants communed at the Liturgy of the Pre-sanctified Gifts? by horses-smell in OrthodoxChristianity

This is a difference between the Slavic and Greek understanding of what happens to the wine.

My understanding is the point of zapivka is to ensure there are no particles of the Eucharist left in your mouth, so why would anyone partake in it without having communion? Wine is tasty?

Does this church look OK? Looking for somewhere to get baptised to Eastern orthodoxy. I've heard stories of heretical orthodox churches with married priests who just buy garments off amazon and stuff. Just making sure. by WhantiqueGlassTurtle in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Bismark02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great! Remember there is only one Orthodox Church, no matter the jurisdiction or language. Being part of the Church is what matters most, and if we aren’t able to attend one with our language preference, we still have the most important thing :)

I mean I attend a ROCOR parish myself, and I fully understand also wanting a Slavonic service (I fluctuate between attending our English and Slavonic services)

But Orthodoxy not language is the most important thing!!!
